He was a complete unknown..health wise. He’s a great pitcher when healthy but 2 years without pitching is a long time

Coby Mayo has an .810 OPS in his last 10 games. He’s also only swinging at the first pitch 18.6% of time (41.3% in 2024). Context: patient hitter Taylor Ward has a 16.5% first pitch swing rate. Craig Albernaz said as of late, Mayo has looked much more “even keeled” at plate.

Still waiting Steve! Again, only 2 pitchers to ever be fully developed from the very bottom to the very top of the organization in the 8 years Elias has been GM. This team cannot develop starting pitching. Can’t wait to see how they mess Dzierwa up too

I'll take that bet on the some of the AA pitchers they have right now. By the way, the org "developed" Felix, got Dominguez to become dominant with split & got Morton fixed to the point he is now sought after. Pitching in org has been on the rise, as I have said, for a yr now.

With Maverick Handley gone, Adley Rutschman and Gunnar Henderson are now the only two members of the Orioles’ 2019 draft class — Mike Elias’ first as GM — still with the organization. Several others (Stowers, Ortiz, Hernaiz, Strowd) on other teams’ 40-man rosters.

I keep saying it. Pitching is so broken it's breathtaking. Just take a peek at the 1st pitch of the SD/LA game. Spin rate? Check! Velocity? Check! Command? Nowhere to be seen. I cannot explain how FAR from pitching this is. On the first pitch, hell the first inning, you are working your fastball around the zone to get a feel for the corners and your command. You might throw 2 of your 3-4 pitches but most nights April to September you don't show your arsenal in the first, you need to get hitters out a couple times. You hold on to the 3 and 4 pitches that you setup in the 1st AB and in the hitters ahead of a guy for later ABs. I am unsure I can explain just how far this one pitch, and the ENTIRE process behind it, is removed from pitching. Having said that I do NOT blame the pitchers. The game is to blame. When you're working on 300 million dollar deals hoping to get 150 innings from a guy, that tells ya all you need to know. It's certainly not an easy fix, nor a quick one, but from the draft to MLB there is ABSOLUTELY a process to 'fix' this crap. Not to mention fewer DL stints, fewer TJ surgeries and longer shelf life for SP.
