@GaryChambersJr Of Louisiana's roughly 4.6 million residents, upwards of 55% are white and 33% are Black. There should be elected officials in similar racial proportions.

These four Black men are the only Black people elected to serve in Congress from Louisiana since the 1870s. Louisiana has elected more than 170 white men to Congress during that same period. Yet today, a corrupt Supreme Court, a puppet governor, and a weak-backed legislature have decided to strip elected power from Black people. That means other people decide how our tax dollars are invested in our communities. I spoke with @repcleofields_, @reptroycarter, former Rep. @cedric_richmond, and former Rep. William Jefferson about why they went to the Louisiana State Capitol to testify against the congressional maps being pushed through. For years, I’ve been saying what happens in Louisiana will impact America. Here we are. This week, the Louisiana House of Representatives plans to pass maps that dilute Black voting power. Our response cannot be silence. Our response has to be showing up in numbers this November and beginning the work of taking power back.

Researchers found (sciencedirect.com/science/articl…) that in cities like #Baltimore, planting more #trees over homes made #environments cooler, reducing #urban #heat, #noise and #pollution. But these benefits often only occurred in #gentrified areas. Everyone needs #EnvironmentalJustice.

This is truly #dangerous! #LarryFink, #BlackRock's CEO (the world's largest asset manager, overseeing $12.5 trillion+ in investments, pensions, and capital) just said #Americans' #PensionFunds and #savings accounts need to be used to gain trillions for cities-destroying #AI.

Ever since a Black soldier named #CrispusAttucks became the first to die in 1770 in the #AmericanRevolutionaryWar, #AfricanAmericans have led the way in fighting for the #USA and honoring #Veterans. #BlackAmericans started #MemorialDay in 1865. (Vid from KTVB.)

We have a problem in #Maryland. #BobbyBerger, a virulently #racist #WhiteSupremacist former police officer who, as this video shows, performed in #BlackFace for decades, is running for the MD House of Delegates in District 6. No one who demeans Black people should hold power.

This month, #NYC Mayor #ZohranMamdani enacted a pied-a-terre tax on luxury homes owned by the super-rich that don't live in the city, erasing the budget deficit without raising property taxes or cutting services. This is how we fight #IncomeInequality and uplift everyday people.

We're a #Wemby kind of #peace initiative.

How independent should the city’s civilian oversight boards be? After he spoke out about possible conflicts of interest and greater independence for civilian review boards at a public meeting of the Baltimore City Council’s Public Safety Committee in November, Jesmond Riggins (@jesmondoriggins), a veteran advocate and attorney, alleges that he was unjustly removed from the Administrative Charging Committee, which reviews complaints against police officers that involve the public, an purported retaliation for his comments. Mr. Riggins has repeatedly called for greater autonomy in police oversight, and now he has filed a lawsuit against the city in federal court to contest his removal from a committee that decides disciplinary outcomes for police officers, a new escalation in a simmering fight over the independence of the city’s civilian oversight bodies. We meditate every day on the pernicious blood-ties between capitalism and violence in the United States. We speak of expensive wars based on incendiary lies; constant police brutality; attacks against immigrants in a country created by European immigrants and enslaved Africans on stolen Indigenous lands; un-affordable goods; eliminated vital social services; perpetual bigotries against anyone who is different; bad and expensive healthcare; poisoned, drought-laden cities through AI data centers; and so many more perpetual maladies. A few networks of unjustly rich, corrupt, self-dealing, bigoted predators and politicians use their enormous wealth and power to make life constantly difficult or miserable for the rest of us. And they inoculate themselves from the decimation that they create. These blood-ties are destroying us. We must resist this violence in our mindsets and actions. We must join peace with justice. We must raise our voices against the drive to silence us. We must uplift loving-kindness and genuine prosperity for everyone, and not just the privileged few.

Officials (including in Maryland) are telling Americans to conserve #water due to #droughts while wicked business men and legislators approve #AI #DataCenters that steal millions of gallons of water, increase water costs, and poison the water supply. #NotMyAI

It's #prom season for many of our #teenage Youth Peacemakers. Here is how we are #mentoring them to have a safe and #peaceful prom. PS: We also counsel them to be creative while avoiding outfits that hyper-sexualize or de-value themselves spiritually, mentally or physically.
