Google’s nano banana pro is wild. I had it read an engineering drawing and flag tolerances <0.01 and surface roughness. It did. Manufacturing just shifted.

And now the next one: Engineering drawing -> nano banana to create 3d view -> SAM3D to create 3d model. Not perfect, but a start.

@BamChrisAI Meshes are useless. No NURBS/BREP = no model.

@evhenkyzmenko True for newer drawings. But there are many old 2d drawings without 3d history.

@BamChrisAI lol guys. You’re doing a double work. Do you think that drawing was made by hand and pencil ? It’s a CAD one and it’s allready has 3D in it.

@buckangel1 And now do this 10000 times, for example for part calculation, model comparison, etc. Think about mass automation applications

@shlykur @nawtayei Unfortunately, no. It’s a mesh, you can export in ply format. Also no dimensional accuracy, only aspect ratio, not absolute values.

SAM3D dropped this week, and I had to try my usual quick 2D to 3D test. I clicked on the 3D view inside an engineering drawing, and SAM3D segmented it instantly and generated a full 3D mesh. From one image. No extra views or depth data. Boom.
