You can't AI your way out of poor requirements or team dysfunction, or maybe you can. There's more to productivity than delivering code. Look at your org holistically to find gaps, and hey, if you find a way to make Claude fix your crumbling team dynamics, then kudos to you.

AI boosts productivity. This is already a foregone conclusion. Yet many teams struggle to see clear leaps in velocity after heavily integrating AI tools. Firstly, most velocity metrics are noisy and can be skewed by a thousand things.

@idrisayobello Only to later learn that the wife of a governor and a posse of follow-follow had come to town for the same event.

@idrisayobello Reminds me of one such event in Bangkok where the only thing at the Nigerian booth was a woman selling jollof rice and meat pie. The shame was too much, I jejely carried my colleague to Ghana booth.

I hate to show negative things about Nigeria but it is sad that Nigeria is the only unmanned booth at TICAD9 in Japan. Upon all the folks who probably got estacode for coming to Japan Only God knows how many Japanese folks have asked me about the unmanned booth seeing my dressing. So ashamed I have now designated myself as Honorary Consul and taken over the booth to engage visitors.

When I visited Rwanda, it hit me,I went an entire month without worrying about electricity or internet issues. Just like that, the quality of my thoughts improved. I wasn’t juggling work while also thinking about how to survive. There’s a hidden tax of dysfunction we’ve all been paying, but many don’t even realize it. A broken system drains you in ways you can’t quantify. You can’t out-hustle it. You’ll do 10x what your peers elsewhere are doing and still end up with half the results. Hard work isn’t enough, you need a functional, intentional system that allows effort to compound. Without it, it’s just a rigged game—a race to the bottom.

I don’t want to end up as a tired 45 year old career man; with two kids in ISI and a Sienna bus, with a semi-fenced house. The odds are stacked against you because you want more out of life. But life doesn’t owe you more. Because who am you, really?

Someone should create a family office for the newly wealthy ($500k-10M) who are not typical family office clients. Or should I? Let me check my bandwidth for space.
Oo Nwoye@OoTheNigerian

Proof number 6552 on how Nigeria doesn't have bankers. Just bank workers ™@asemota A man with $3M liquidity and insane cash flow taught the best way to multiply his wealth was to do FOREX. Probably was convinced by someone who had a $2500 networth and one weekend of FOREX trading, augmented with watching 5 hours of YouTube and membership of 15 telegram channels. There is a blog post I was to write after the Paystack exit but didn't. A part of it was how wealth was to enter a new generation but we lacked the people to manage it. Apps like @Risevest, @PiggyBankNG are very important, but we still need our JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs equivalents.

@eldivine You got to move mad before they take you seriously. You can try to be polite and friendly, but eventually, you will learn. This is the most exhausting part of Nigeriaing for me, my default mode is soft soft, gentle gentle but they showed me pepper and ingredients.

I've had difficult days or weeks at a time but I could never relate when people said they had a difficult year. Now I can. 2024 tried me in a thousand ways. Still have a million things to be thankful for. I hope to never lose sight of them.

I just noticed that Kaduna city featured prominently in the lives of men believed to be richest in Offa across generations - Alhaji Sanni Aba of the 1970s through 1980s (lived and did business for many years in Kaduna, owned houses in Kaduna) - Chief Adesoye of the 1980s through 1990s (lived for years in Kaduna, owned companies and houses there) - Brimo of 2000s to date (worked in NNDC Kaduna from 1987 to 1993) - Chief Owoyemi of the 2000s to date (attended Kaduna Poly, started business in Kaduna) Until recently, our people appeared to prefer to migrate to Kaduna (rather than Lagos) for city life exploration and economic opportunities.

@TheOnlyIbukun Honestly best to leave such roles once you clock the situation for what it is, though they tend to come with high comp and title, it decimates your quality of life and mental health. And also this is me advising myself because 'value and impact' bs will not let me see road.

6. Take care of yourself - the shareholders don’t care. If you’re a hard + smart worker, make sure the role you’re taking on also provides the tools you need to actually do the job.

1. I was listening to a podcast episode telling the story of a man who k*lled himself because a huge project he was responsible for at work was about to be a massive failure. As sobering as it was, I wasn’t surprised to hear this story

@OoTheNigerian Spot on. Elrufai, and his family Tbh, are as divisive and provocative as they come but he delivers some undeniable results.

Any real solution that improves the life of the masses ultimately removes money from one Big man's pocket. This is the koko of the evil that plagues Nigeria. You cannot solve the real issues without offending a godfather.

@abdulapopoola Related, I am experimenting with a public todo list. I don't have conclusions yet but it's interesting the conversations it has both triggered and prevented 🤔

@abdulapopoola Indeed, they work. I'm also able to trick my brain to enjoy doing boring hard things by anticipating the reward of finishing it. Some days though, nothing works. 🤷

Fellow Engineering Leads/Managers how do you deal with all the administrative work that comes with the role? It's the least motivating part for me.

@OmoGbajaBiamila They literally tore the wrappings off my box, tore my box, took out the long wheelers and made space for "something". I'll never know what it was they put in it.
