This is actually a really good point. Perhaps too many police resources are being spent on things like social media posts instead of core policing responsibilities. Police budgets should be regularly audited and reviewed to ensure taxpayer dollars are being directed toward frontline policing and public safety, not activities that fall outside their actual mandate. There also seems to be a recurring problem across public institutions of acting ultra vires, beyond the authority granted to them by law. Public bodies exist to exercise only the powers the legislature has given them, not to expand their own role. Staying within their legal mandate is not optional; it is fundamental to the rule of law, and we must ensure that the resources entrusted to them are used to carry out that mandate—not to pursue activities beyond it.
