@BrookingsGlobal just listened to this webinar. It is refreshing to hear such scholars share the reality that reforms are understood but not being implemented. This is on those in government to be learners - to take part in reforms - and step back from the over-engineering ranking systems.

Looking to see a competitive alternative to Amazon - with 'free delivery' like Prime. Please share. Time for a new option to open up that is not backing Trump.

@JeffBezos it used to be that Jeff answered emails (an 'eagle' of a CEO) - but now at Amazon he's a no show, succumbed to 'duck' or 'sheep' status...a shame - and being a puppet for Trump at the Post, not impressive - at all!

Wow. Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde fearlessly calls out Trump and Vance to their faces. This is heroic.

@eduleadership disagree. We are not all the same - teachers and students. Science of reading is not a sound theory, nor backed by peer reviewed educational research. Yes, it is simple - and easy to move to multiple choice using tech - but not deep learning - that can solve tomorrows challenges.

We need more education research. If you are so inclined, conduct the studies that interest you, even if you're not affiliated with a university, and get it published in respected journals. It's going to take all of us and our critical analyses on practice to be effective in the years ahead. Consider, though: We don't have robust, juried journal, definitive studies on all that is wise and wonderful in education. A lot of what teachers do daily that seems to work for them and their students has not been vetted by extensive review of the associated research literature, and what there is in any one area may be limited in its applicability to our situation. Education research is powerful stuff and should be sought with every major change in instructional practice - Let's stay informed! -- but because we can't control for context every time, cited outcomes can lose applicability in the scaling from the sample studied to our particular school, and some research can be biased depending on who's doing the study and who benefits from its outcome, the wisest option is to claim that doing X tends to result in Y, but rarely claiming genuine causation from X to Y. Diligent vigilance and healthy skepticism make for good, education savvy. So, stay up to date and gather all the ed research you can, but let it inform your responses and applications, not dictate absolute truths. When we push back on new education ideas, demanding incontrovertible truth from multiple research studies before we consider using it, we are abdicating professional judgement, and we're avoiding, 'not wanting to go through the difficulty of changing current practices and perhaps teacher identity. It's also a misunderstanding of the role education research in our decisions. In case it helps conversations, consider the following piece on the reasoned responses we can make when someone declares, "Show me the proof!" in education: amle.org/the-problem-wi…
