This is how shading and gradation in manga was done in during pre-digital era; using screentones. Lots of meticulous shaping, scraping, scoring to get the desired shading effect. Every. Single. Panel. Manga is hard work. 🥲

Here's the first week of crowdfunding for each volume of Theseus. I'm encouraged because this looks like audience-building...really works. People came back. They helped get me on the radar for new readers. 1/4

“People back stories that matter.” That’s a fair point. So, what inspired me to create the INFINITALE CHRONICLES? The short answer: Nostalgia for better days. The longer answer (I have a blue checkmark and I’m gonna make good use of it): After having my dream career blow up in my face, leaving me homeless, I had to start over from scratch in my late 30s. I was fortunate enough to leverage my graphic design & UX skills to change industries and find work as a UX designer for cyber security companies. Sure, it was a lot more stable than the tenuous (at best) employment prospects of video game development. Unfortunately, it was also creatively unfulfilling. Although I was no longer living out of my car in southern California, I moved back to New Hampshire and was still depressed. It felt like I was just going through the motions until the curtains eventually dropped on my life. That’s when I sought out what brought me joy — back to my youth and to when I developed my own fantasy role-playing game system with my friends every weekend. For a few hours every Saturday, we could all forget about some of the really bad stuff in our lives (divorce, child abuse, physical handicaps, some really dark stuff, etc.) and immerse ourselves in a world where the good guys had a fighting chance. I resurrected that project from my old storage containers and planned to self-publish it! Then I saw all of the crowdfunded TTRPG competition and felt a little overwhelmed. A former colleague and friend of mine from my video game design days suggested I make an animated series to drive up some hype. That sounded amazing! What better way to get people excited for a game world than by introducing it to them before the game was released? I spent a few years writing screenplays and eventually enrolled in screenwriting courses where I met some Hollywood bigwigs! Then I learned how over-ambitious my epic saga of elves and magic was for an animated series and how much money/resources would be involved in such a production. That same friend then suggested “You can draw. Make that into a comic book series!” Sadly, an auto-immune disease ended up taking away my drawing abilities in 2014 so I reached out to other artists to make it happen. So, here we are today. I’m crowdfunding a graphic novel series! It’s based on the chronicled role-playing game sessions I ran with my friends from 1990 through 2001. Everyone that played INFINITALE left pieces of themselves in those adventures. Rereading these stories, after all these years, makes me feel like a teenager again! It feels like all the friends that sat around that giant table in the Pelham Public Library every weekend hadn’t grown up, moved away, got married, and had kids of their own yet. Those were the best years of my life! The tales that came from them are now printed for the world to see what brought so much joy and wonder to a group of kids in a New Hampshire town in the 90s.

@Stekichikun you have actively push the "not interested" button a lot here. Like more art and it will start to show more often. Probably.

I see less and less comic art here. Fewer people posting their work on this site. I live under a rock so to speak so someone tell me where all the comic book awesomeness went or if creators and companies just don't post stuff to social media anymore.

(Reposting from my Substack) Creating My IP - Journey Journal #01 Rod Luper Nov 07, 2024 Hello everyone! My name is Rod Luper, and I've been a professional artist for over 30 years. During this time, I’ve worked across nearly every form of 2D art you can imagine—comics, book illustrations, concept art for video games and films, storyboarding, and even canvas painting. Yet, despite all of this, my true passion has always been telling my own stories through comic books. My love for comics runs so deep that I built an entire career around them, collaborating with authors worldwide. In fact, at times, I’ve had to turn down projects simply because of the demand for my work. But as the years went by, my own stories kept calling out to me. Still, with the demands of professional work, I rarely found the time to pursue my dream of creating a comic of my own. I’ve experimented with a few of my short stories, which you can read for free on GlobalComix. These projects were invaluable for helping me understand the full process, from writing to completed pages, with all the dialogue and details in place. Here are my short stories: TIME, my OLD FRIEND globalcomix.com/c/time-old-fri… LOVE globalcomix.com/c/love-1?utm_m… I’ve learned a lot through these projects, including how to manage production timelines—a crucial lesson, especially for someone like me with ADHD. Staying focused and planning are real challenges, but I’ve found ways to balance my work, family, and personal projects. Now, I’m finally at a place where I can bring my vision to life and create something I’ve dreamt of for years: my comic book series. This comic has been in the making for over 20 years, evolving and refining itself alongside me. Now, I’m ready to fully dedicate myself to it and bring this story into the world. I’m excited to share every step of this journey, from drawing the first pages to holding the final printed book in my hands. I’ll be documenting everything here and on my YouTube channel and mainly in my Substack @rodluper1, where I’ll dive into the process behind each step of making a comic book. If you’re passionate about comics or curious about what it takes to create one, I’d love to have you join me on this journey. I hope it’s inspiring for others, and who knows—maybe it’ll even spark a new generation of comic creators! Again, for regular updates, sneak peeks, and exclusive insights, follow me here and sign up for my newsletter on Substack = @rodluper1" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">substack.com/@rodluper1 Together, let’s bring this story to life! Thank you, Rod Luper 1 Restack

@darlingstrawbie The sad thing is they don't see anyone that isn't Catholic as a brother or a sister. I used to generally hold the same position as you, but they see anyone that doesn't do their liturgy, hold their sacraments, and perform their piety as unsaved.

I think it’s an obvious sign that Japan is infected with a similar spiritual crisis to the West since apparently no mainstream mangaka can end their stories well. Like, we’re having these controversies every few months.

@jururenu doing this has been a lifesaver for making it easier to draw longer. Takes a while to get used to drawing with a feather-light touch, but once you do it's way WAY more comfortable and protects you from cramps/tendonitis.

Btw, you guys have catholic OCs too? Show me! (They don't have to be Nuns nor Priests, just canonical believers of the tradition are fine too)

I can actually read the whole story of Okuri-Inu: The Wolf Within digitally now. I knew it was going to be a reality; there is no giving up for me. Reading it in its entirety, even though I'm in editor mode, is surreal. @thelucentcomic @FillPops @Plaster_Harris @RenieDraws @DeathMetalHero @zenturian2000 So this is what it feels like, huh? To read a COMPLETE work. Not fractions of it here and there. Crazy feeling after 5-6 years of spending all my own money. Better than spending it on gambling and cheap crack whores.
