Maybe not a popular take but I am calling for this guy to be pardoned. Unless the DOJ plans on going after all the crooks in congress currently insider trading, this is simply skewed justice. There is no “justice” when guys like this get the book thrown at him yet members are illegally profiting every day.
I don’t agree with what he did and he should be required to disgorge all the profits however, unless the DOJ plans on doing Congress next, this is not justice.

Now here’s where this could go: Rs across the South could follow Virginia’s extreme move of leaving just one Republican congressional district by doing the same to Dems, and with the voting rights decision pending from the Supreme Court, you could have a scenario where Dems lose multiple seats in the South leading to a significant reduction in Black political power.
As I mentioned on CNN tonight, no one wins this game because it treats politics as warfare instead of governance, and you can’t govern with those principles, so this will only get worse. And as I mentioned months ago on CNN re: Texas when I said “this could backfire,” it was evident then as it is now that this could spark a fire that eventually burns down the house. This is merely the beginning of a heightened level of polarization and factionalism that undoubtedly will continue to spread at a time where national unity is paramount.
