Husband walked past a woman and her pit bull today and she said "Sorry, my dog is super friendly but she's a shelter rescue and she is very aggressive toward men with hats and glasses."

I love how the new slur for straight women is just a repurposed slur for gay men. really makes you wonder

@CartoonsHateHer They’ve been calling me “semen drinker” because I made the mistake once of saying I do consensual sex with my husband

@Krishan_A_Patel does that mean that women DO owe their attraction to men who posses the proper discipline? I don't think it makes sense to look at this through the lenses of 'owing' and 'earning' at all

I essentially did looksmaxing through my fitness journey, and it rendered me eligible for romantic companionship. Men who are not short have agency over whether they are lovable or not, and women do not owe men who lack the proper discipline their attraction.
josh@meadandjuniper

Any way you cut it this also means that at least one gender is being dumb; either looksmaxxing is the wrong approach and young men somehow became massively out of touch with women, or looksmaxxing is on to something and young women just are that shallow Whoever it is cut it out

@wine_ghost @default_friend yes, I don't think this is necessarily the case for Lindy West, but it is the case for a lot of ppl, and it feels like missing the point for everyone to be like "you deserve better!" when someone probably isn't going to do better (even if they 'deserve' to in some abstract way)

Unpopular opinion: I don’t think polyamory is the problem, I think entering arrangements you’re not comfortable with because you don’t think anyone else will be in a relationship with you is the problem.

@CartoonsHateHer I find it weird how many people are assuming that she's somehow oblivious to how all this comes across rather than intentionally outrage baiting as she's done throughout her career (and the book can be an accurate account of her situation and she can still be outrage baiting)

So here's the thing. Maybe all of us are completely wrong and she's misunderstood, but surely someone involved in the publishing of her book/interview told her this? I mean, for everyone to see it the same way, surely she has to understand why!

@SimonCa00488810 @lionel_trolling ok, but if you want to make a point about legit criticism of Israel being shut down with antisemitism allegations why would you choose Pat Buchanan of all people? There must be someone Podhoretz has accused of antisemitism for being anti-Israel who isn't also a nazi

@lionel_trolling It was not the best example to pick; however, he wasn’t an antisemite BECAUSE he criticized the 2006 bombing of Lebanon, whatever his ultimate motivations

@estherzelda0514 @CartoonsHateHer in this case I think the wife would rather have left the husband altogether, but didn't want to hurt him/didn't feel she could until he gave her 'permission' (not explicitly necessarily, but signalled something like 'I'll be sad if you leave, but I'll cope, I'll get through it")

@estherzelda0514 @CartoonsHateHer I'm thinking of a particular case I observed where the wife was unhappy in the (previously monogamous) marriage and wanted to see other ppl, the husband was v obv not enthusiastic about this, but accepted it as less worse option than losing her completely

@estherzelda0514 @CartoonsHateHer I always wonder in these situations to what extent the partner who pushed for opening the relationship is just a cad enjoying having their cake + eating it, and to what extent they'd actually be happier fully ending the relationship, but their partner won't 'let' them in some way

@KeloidKrown @GringoStarr2011 @jemelehill In the full statement he did also say that he left the event early because he "was aware of the distress [his] tics were causing", so there was an acknowledgement of the hurt caused, regardless of his intention

@GringoStarr2011 @jemelehill He said he was "mortified if anyone thought his tics were intentional or carry meaning". That's not even an acknowledgement of how harmful the word is, let alone an apology for the hurt it understandably causes.

Jemele Hill@jemelehill·
He should not apologize for his disability. But having this disability does not mean permanent immunity from the harm caused by what you say to people. The tone of his apology is off-putting and reads like: I left, what else do you want me to do? Apologizing to MJB and Delroy Lindo is just the right thing to do. He can do that and educate people as well.
@ijbailey@ijbailey

I respect Jemele immensely and understand the position she and others are taking. But I can't agree with them. This is a disability, a neurological condition. The n-word is the most powerful and painful in the English language. Impact will always matter. But intent must as well.

I wrote about what "incel" really means in a world where such a large swath of Gen Z are sexless, and more afraid of embarrassment and risk than motivated to have sex. Link in replies.

@asthasr @CartoonsHateHer I think the signalling/counter-signalling still happens, and that's one reason I'm inclined to defend the guys being criticized for not approaching women irl - I think a lot of them are already being 'pre-rejected' before getting to the point of explicitly asking someone out

Excerpts from your novel
Excerpts from your novel@asthasr·
The reality is that a lot of this was supposed to be learned early and in low-stakes environments. You're not supposed to be approaching women who have the possibility of being "grossed out" by it; there was always a lot of interaction before that point, where you are signaling and counter-signaling to each other, so that by the time you ask it's either a low-stakes rejection or a fait accompli. My pinned thread talks about this... a lot of it was lost in the loss of embodied socialization.

@asthasr @CartoonsHateHer annoyed/embarrassed at best and unnerved/grossed out at worst. If you know ahead of time this is probably how she'll feel, then aren't you being selfish (or even predatory) by asking anyway? but then if you follow this line of thinking you get chided for not even trying.

@asthasr @CartoonsHateHer even if you're not the platonic ideal of an incel, and acknowledge that some woman somewhere might like you in a non-platonic way, if you're an unattractive man you know that most women's response to you asking them out is likely not to be glad but to wish that you hadn't
