Political Risk Alert: Namibia Considers Going Klepto The state is not local. That's a big part of the problem: locals don't see how much miners pay in royalties and taxes that never trickle down to them. Hence such measures can be very popular but do no good to locals at all.

I’m constantly surprised at the scale of “life back to normal” in the past few weeks. *Everywhere* is crowded, long waits for everything, airfare / Lyft etc prices way up. It’s like a reverse pandemic time warp.
