Happy #InternationalNursesDay! We asked Nurse Tina from Beckton Ward in Newham Hospital what she had to say, and we absolutely love this message that she recorded for us. 💜 Tina has been getting lots of messages of appreciation through My Thank You, which was recently rolled out to include Newham, The Royal London and Mile End hospitals. My Thank You is an easy way to give patients, families and friends a way to share a personal message of thanks with the NHS staff, volunteers and teams who made a difference during their hospital experience. One gorgeous message we received about Tina was: "I just wanted to say a heartfelt thank you for everything you did for me. You truly made such a difference during my recovery. You made me laugh when I needed it the most, and you gently encouraged me to move after my laparoscopy, which really helped me feel stronger and better each day. I was hoping to thank you personally, but your shift had already ended. So I’m writing this to let you know how much I appreciate you. This isn’t just a message - it’s coming straight from my heart. Thank you for your kindness, care, and support. It meant more to me than words can say." @NHSBartsHealth

Yesterday we got to go to @UKParliament, where there was an event to celebrate five years of @QMULResilience. At the invitation of Sir Stephen Timms MP, the event was a chance to reflect on the incredible work the Unit has done over the past five years - deepening our understanding of young people’s mental health and resilience through research at @QMUL. We supported the creation of the Youth Resilience Unit because we believe young people’s mental health needs more attention, more understanding, and more investment. According to @Rethink_ , three quarters of mental health conditions begin before the age of 18, and yet research focused specifically on young people remains limited. The Youth Resilience Unit was set up to help change that. Its work looks not only at mental illness, but also at resilience: how young people cope, recover, and stay well. It was inspiring to hear about the impact the Unit has already had, and we’re proud to have supported its journey over the last five years. Big shout out to Professor Jennifer Lau, Professor @dennisougrin and everybody at the Youth Resilience Unit for an amazing event.

We’re still buzzing from Sunday and can’t get over these incredible moments from the London Marathon 💜📸 The energy and determination that carried our amazing runners all the way to the finish line can literally be felt in every shot 🏃‍♀️✨ It meant so much to be there cheering you on, and we’re endlessly grateful to every single one of our fundraisers. We’re already counting down to next year 🙌

You may have spotted yesterday’s report from @HealthFdn doing the rounds in the papers and on TV. The report found that people in the UK are spending fewer years in good health. This is an important reminder why research and innovation in healthy ageing is crucial... Healthy life expectancy has fallen over the past decade, with most people now experiencing ill health before retirement age. The causes range from chronic disease to widening inequalities. That’s why we're investing in solutions - like the @achealthyageing, a partnership with @QMUL and @NHSBartsHealth. Through ACHA, we’re supporting research embedded in frontline NHS care that focuses on prevention, frailty, and what actually works in real communities. ACHA brings together clinicians, researchers and local people to generate evidence that can transform services - helping people stay healthier, independent, and out of hospital for longer. To reverse this trend, we need innovation rooted in what is happening to people in our local communities. And that’s exactly what ACHA is delivering. theguardian.com/society/2026/a…

More people in Newham will soon have access to cutting-edge clinical trials and innovative treatments, closer to home. A new Clinical Trials Pharmacy at Newham Hospital will make it a lot easier to take part in research that could transform care locally. Chloe spoke about tackling health inequalities through inclusive, community‑co‑produced research, with a focus on long‑acting HIV treatment and prevention - ensuring no one is left behind. Chloe Orkin is a Professor at @QMUL and a sexual health doctor at @NHSBartsHealth, internationally recognised for her work on health equity and innovative HIV care.
