If AI music is truly inferior because it has no soul, then human music with soul should have a lasting competitive advantage. If fans or musicians are still afraid that AI will replace human artists, they are implicitly admitting that much of the music they defend may have been soulless all along.

I think both sides mostly agree it’s no longer about the music itself being “soulless,” but rather that most counterarguments are either economic or moral in nature, which is completely valid. Whatever your stance, AI music is here to stay. Small artists will likely have to adapt their incentive structures around income rather than resorting to Nietzschean ressentiment.

@abxlabs This is a valid "soul" argument, people not listening to AI music because they won't ever be able to see it live (unless a human covers it)

@BasB3 This is VERY spot on. I couldn't agree more! 👏 AI slop is beating human slop at its own game.

@BasB3 I’m simply not interested in AI music. If I got bamboozled into listening to something AI generated and liked it, learning it was AI would completely sour me to it and I would hate myself, the song, and whoever tricked me into listening to it.

These arguments are always so general they tend to be meaningless. "AI music" vs "human music." For what? A live concert is usually better than a recorded track. But you can't have live concerts on your car stereo. A great "human" musician with an orchestra is going to make "better" music than a guy with a guitar in his basement. So what? Maybe you like the sound of a guy in his basement. If someone wants to put a funny action beat under their You Tube video of them cooking biscuits, will a human musician do a better job than AI? Depends on the budget and the musician. Is it possible AI will come up with something better, faster? Absolutely. If I get sick of listening to canned spa music to relax, can I get something more to my taste with AI? Probably. Will some creative person invent a fake rock band using AI and will it become popular? Most likely. Will it be as good as the Rolling Stones? Not likely. If you feel threatened by AI, I'm sorry, but it's here. Learn to use it or find a human advantage against it. (Basement guitar.) Hating on it won't do anything.

@Vanarchain What if a person creates AI music based on one's deepest emotions, i.e. the emotions are entirely in the song's output but not in the process?

@BasB3 Still, even if AI improves output quality, emotional intent and lived experience remain part of how audiences evaluate art.

@LDonivan @Law661039Law I have no incentive to "win" this discussion either way, I'm just exploring both sides. However, since I simply enjoy listening to AI music, I fail to see what is wrong with me according to the proponents.

@BasB3 I hate hearing that. "Its soulless" like in what way? I hear so much emotion in the voice, whether its a computer voice or what..! Idk.. haters gonna hate. Sigh. I enjoy making ai music :) ive been harassed about it more than once being lazy and uncreative though 🤣

@Tapu_Pixels Here's a question: what if a human musician plays an AI generated track live?

@BasB3 For me it's inferior because I love seeing musicians live. Nothing better than human connection through live human music.

@natethawiz If AI is trained on countless human songs, wouldn't that give AI tracks quantifiably "more soul"?

@BasB3 No matter how you spin it, human music is composed/written/performed from the heart which to me is what gives it “soul” .. not from the prompted song put together by a machine

@BasB3 No anti-AI argument centering on artistic merit will be irrefutable: that's a subjective matter. The convincing argument is that AI music, by its very nature, constitutes theft of intellectual property.

@EdwardSalvadori I think you are confirming my argument, *according to this logic* we might agree that AI will have more impact on "soulless" mainstream music and underground music will remain relatively untouched

@BasB3 It's not about AI replacing musicians. It's about trained musicians using their knowledge of music theory to write prompts and crank out 30 songs a day. Hence oversaturating an already oversaturated market and devaluing music in general

@Law661039Law AI generated music is learned from human made music rather than explicitly programmed, so many human imperfections are naturally reproduced as well I agree on the live recordings, they have "soul" and people will keep paying for that so nothing to fear from AI

@BasB3 Randomness? Yes it can be done but if you do program it into the Ai the listener will know it was done on purpose whereas humans are trying to be perfect and never reaching it. Why see a live show if you can just play a recording?
