This rhetoric is a direct assault on liberty, an insult to the Constitution you swore an oath to uphold, and a disqualifying display of legal philosophy for a chief prosecutor. In the United States, freedom of speech is not a concession granted by government whim, nor is it a conditional benefit subject to the approval of a District Attorney. It is an unalienable right, inherent to all citizens and explicitly protected against government infringement by the First Amendment. When a public official tasked with the administration of justice redefines foundational liberties as privileges, they undermine the bedrock of our constitutional republic and signal a dangerous willingness to abuse the power of their office.
