@KhaleelahStrom1@georgejroy I felt the same way. Many teachers still focus on traditional style teaching. How can we help others see what we now see after being part of this cohort?#EDSE770Aiken
@georgejroy After reading the unproductive beliefs, I noticed that these are some of the beliefs of the traditional style teachers. The unproductive beliefs are based on the lowest level of Bloom’s Taxonomy - Remembering. #EDSE770Aiken
@BynesLeah@georgejroy I do not think we should forget about basic skills altogether, but I think we should spend more time focusing on the conceptual knowledge built in a math classroom to foster future learning.
@a_slacklife@georgejroy 100% April!!! How can we push for a shift district and statewide to move from procedural knowledge to conceptual? I think the #EDSE770Aiken class is definitely moving in the right direction for change.
A challenge we face in today's math classroom is that many educators have been taught procedurally, not conceptually. Unproductive beliefs may center around practicing procedures and memorizing facts instead of developing understanding of concepts. @georgejroy#EDSE770Aiken
Wonder: Why are many teachers still relying on skill and drill in the classroom? Why are more teachers not focused on creating connections and developing deeper understanding of mathematics concepts? Do teachers allow their math students to explore mathematics?
@georgejroy#EDSE770Aiken
Many of the unproductive beliefs revolve around memorization of mathematics facts. I also notice many of the unproductive beliefs are ways in which I was taught mathematics. The way I was taught mathematics is much different than how I teach my students.
