@a_slacklife @georgejroy April, I have the same thoughts and notions here. I said the same thing to Sarah but it’s worth saying gain that I have changed the way I teach ALL students because of this. I think it’s interesting to challenge them with word problems right away.

A challenge we face in today's math classroom is that many educators have been taught procedurally, not conceptually. Unproductive beliefs may center around practicing procedures and memorizing facts instead of developing understanding of concepts. @georgejroy #EDSE770Aiken

@BashlineShauna @georgejroy @BashlineShauna I think it starts with teachers being willing to step outside of the proverbial box and give up some control. Allowing students time to think and make mistakes - It's tough, because we want our students to be successful! We all know the power behind mistakes...

@a_slacklife @georgejroy 100% April!!! How can we push for a shift district and statewide to move from procedural knowledge to conceptual? I think the #EDSE770Aiken class is definitely moving in the right direction for change.

@BynesLeah @georgejroy @BynesLeah I think that's the issue teachers struggle with. We understand the procedural must be included in our instruction, but maybe the shift to allowing our students more time to grapple with mathematical concepts needs to be set in motion.
