I have been advising my patients about the importance of Vitamin D for their health. Because we are in lockdown and spending a lot of time indoors, Vitamin D levels can become low. Make sure you take Vitamin D supplements if you are not getting a lot of sun exposure.

@I_mitochondria @ProfTimNoakes what about pseudohypoxia signaled by low NAD+ due to over consumption by SIRT1 which will be up-regulated in response to the virus. Also Adam17 seems to have the ability to convert Fe2 to Fe3

@ProfTimNoakes Possibly increased heme oxygenase (HO) as a result of RBC breakdown & mitochondrial haem oxidation. ⬆️HO1/2 action ➡️⬆️carbon monoxide,⬆️ferritin,⬆️bilirubin. Insulin signalling ➡️⬆️NFkB. NFkB transcriptionally regulates HO1 expression. ⬆️CO➡️⬇️O2 saturation capacity

Lippia G, Mattiuzzi C: Hemoglobin value may be decreased in patients with severe coronavirus disease 2019. htct.com.br/pt-pdf-S253113…. Serum ferritin and bilirubin also increased (other studies) suggesting red cell breakdown. Anemia alone not enough to explain progressive hypoxia?

@gerdosi @janvyjidak OK but as per the summary of studies I posted, SIRT1 activation is crucial for the control of ADAM17 and TNF-α

More detailed analysis of 54 hospitalized patients, out of which 28 had severe respiratory failure. Largely the same findings regarding IL-6 (and TNF-α), but more specific info on lymphopenia. cell.com/cell-host-micr…

It is just a case report, but interfering with the cytokine storm, this time with an IL-6R antibody, is a mechanistically plausible way to stop the menace. We can only hope that protocols can’t prevent common sense application of this and similar tools. latimes.com/world-nation/s…

Lessons of Life : our immune system is not just the food we eat, or pills we take. Or excercise we do Our immune system is a vast ecosystem intricately connected to the immune system of nature. Our every thought, every breath is also part of that immune system. #COVIDー19

@IMWHorvitz Obesity and Diabetes both drive down NAD+ via CD38. Low NAD+ means poor SIRT1 activation and the latter is crucial for the body to fight a SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Obesity is a critical risk factor for type 2 diabetes, regardless of genetics -- ScienceDaily. Ummm... #Duh. Researchers have not yet figured out the continuum between overweight -> Obesity-> Diabetes ?? It’s the same imbalance just at different stages. sciencedaily.com/releases/2020/…

@MarikaSboros It works for SARS-CoV-2 by targeting TNF-a but even the studies that discuss the way it interacts with TNF-a are mixed about its overall effectiveness...

Mind-boggling mixed research on #hydrochloroquine. Same country #Brazil on one hand halts small study because drug causing 'potentially dangerous' heart issues, on the other has 'unique hospital' giving it to seniors (also at home!) with 'great success'. Dose the key? #COVID19
Mike Coudrey@MichaelCoudrey

A unique hospital in Brazil called “Prevent Senior” has already treated & discharged 300 hospitalized patients with Hydroxychloroquine & Azithromycin with great success. They also provide treatment at home, mail you the HQC + Zpack combo, & monitor your recovery online. 👏👏👏

So medicine has been telling us for years that this drug was very safe. How could they be so wrong?
Joe Maleszewski, MD@joemaleszewski

#Hydroxychloroquine ≠ benign drug. It can have devastating effect on heart muscle. On the left is normal myocardium. On the right is HcQ-mediated cardiotoxicity with prominent sarcoplasmic vacuolization. #CVPath

A new review article argues that all exercise improves immunity. During exercise, some immune cell numbers in the bloodstream increase dramatically but decrease immediately after exercise and then return to normal several hours later. ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/32139352

Agriculturalists drained blood from animals, but added much salt (especially for preservation). I wonder if the lack of blood in a carnivorous diet is the reason we need so much salt.
