Planning a training session on metacognition for a secondary school. Any ideas on a short, snappy, simple response when a colleague asks “What IS metacognition?” pretty please? @teacherhead @adamboxer1

@EngChatUK It’s got to be writing ‘verbal feedback’ or the equivalent on student work 🙄

#EngChatUK Finally, and just for fun, what’s the worst feedback policy/strategy you’ve come across? Mine was ‘learning conversations’ and involved teacher & pupil holding convos in diff coloured pens. Purely performative!

@EngChatUK Highlighting the levels on the old NC levels overview - statements for 4c, 4b, 4a etc across a year, horribly dense massive piece of paper in size 8 font, not student friendly, just....colouring for the nice visual of highlighting increasing. Glad we don't do that any more!

@BcTeaching @EngChatUK @FunkyPedagogy If it wasn’t for the need to give grades for progress tracking and reporting, I’d use bands all day every day as it actually means something and is so easy for the students to understand

Welcome one and all to #Engchatuk - happy to be spending this 30 mins with you! First up - how can we avoid pupils focusing solely on the grade on a piece of work & ignoring the teacher feedback? Remember to reply using the hashtag #engchatuk 👍🏻

@EngChatUK Every lesson. But "every lesson" might be a hinge question. Quick whole class feedback still effective!

Question 3: How often do you think pupils should receive effective feedback in a half term? Possibly controversial… #EngChatUK

@EngChatUK Don't give the grade! And tell the students why you aren't giving them the grade to educate them about how learning happens...

Great briefing on how to support EAL students in classrooms to start the day today. Dual coding, pre-teaching, sharing cultural understanding, focusing on a supportive environment...making sure everyone is involved #EAL #teachingismysuperpower
