This week at @DropSiteNews we published an investigation revealing that U.S. government agencies will have "representatives" working inside a massive surveillance tower in Ciudad Juárez, which is run by the Chihuahua state government. As part of that story, we identified at least six separate operations in recent years that involved intelligence sharing between Chihuahua state officials and U.S. government agencies. 🇲🇽 NEW: Chihuahua Governor Mari Campos confirms Drop Site’s reporting that Chihuahua is pressing ahead with a close collaboration with U.S. agencies despite the recent scandal involving the unauthorized participation of CIA agents in operations on Mexican soil. During an interview with Mexican journalist Joaquín López-Dóriga, Campos struggled to answer questions and suggested U.S. agents would continue participating in security operations in Chihuahua before abruptly backtracking as aides off-camera appeared to signal for her to stop speaking. Campos described a hypothetical operation in which U.S. authorities alert Chihuahua officials that a violent suspect had crossed into the state and request assistance in apprehending the individual for extradition. Asked directly whether agents from the requesting U.S. agency would participate, Campos initially answered yes before attempting to clarify that Mexican authorities would carry out the detention. When López-Dóriga pressed her on whether agencies such as the DEA or FBI could be involved, Campos interrupted the exchange, saying people off-camera were making “a lot of signs” at her and asking for the camera to move so she could see them.
