I’ve stood inches from the Nymphéas in the Orangerie in Paris, where these massive canvases wrap around you & the light moves across the thick impasto. walked through Monet’s gardens at Giverny multiple times .. early morning when the pond is still, midday when the reflections fracture, and late afternoon when his failing eyesight turned everything into those vibrating violets and greens he painted anyway. when @shl0ms posted a photo of water-lily paintings & labeled it “AI-generated,” I watched this whole thread with a strange mix of amusement n sadness. Hundreds immediately roasted it for the usual reasons we now dismiss AI art with.. But even the “real Monet” image everyone was judging was never THE painting. It was a digital photograph -> already a copy, already a lie! It was Stripped of the physical depth. There were no canvas weave letting underlayers peek through. No sense of scale when you step back ten feet and the pond suddenly appears, or when you step six inches close and it just turns into this wild chaotic slabs of pigment. The camera already altered the colors. The history was already flattened out of it. So the entire argument happening in this thread is people comparing a copy of a copy to a supposedly AI copy and then declaring some kind of victory because we can’t always tell the difference at first glance… defeats the whole purpose. It’s scary how less people know about history of art and what makes Monet … Monet. The real painting the physical canvas Monet stood in front of for thirty years at the pond he built and tended himself … carries something no digital version can ever touch!! It has lived history baked into every layer: this one crazy obsessive guy returning at mornin and eve, always fighting the changing light, his failing eyesight, physical fatigue, real risk with every brushstroke he made .. . That heart n soul people talk about isn’t in these stupid pixels. It’s in the material object he actually touched! here is where AI is fundamentally different from every other form of reproduction we’ve ever had: A 19th-century painter hand-copying a Monet was still doing honest human labor. It wasn’t the original, but it wasn’t theft. A photograph flattens it, but it’s just documentation…nothing more An AI prompt is something uglier. It’s trained on millions of stolen human artworks scraped without permission or credit, then averaged into something that looks like the original. When you CREDIT the AI output (which shalom did), you are literally erasing the real artists whose life’s work was taken to make it. You are removing the main guy … Monet himself .. and handing the glory to a machine. That’s why calling this a “generational thing” or “just like when people hated Impressionism” is nonsense. Monet wasn’t stealing anyone’s life’s work. He was living inside his own obsession and pushing the medium forward with his own hands. AI doesn’t push anything forward .. it averages what’s already been done .. If you don’t know the history of art, you’re looking at any version of this painting completely blank. These Nymphéas weren’t just pretty pond scenes. They were one of the main fragments of the moment that changed art forever .. the shift from “paint what you know” to “paint what you see.” Monet turned pure perception and changing light into the subject. He opens the door to modern abstraction & color as subject. That revolution, that history, that canvas … are the things no screen, no edit can ever carry. The experiment showed how primed we are to see “AI flaws”. But it also proved that once we reduce everything to digital copies layered on top of copies, we’ve already lost the real conversation about art. We’re arguing over derivatives while forgetting the original object that actually matters. The soul still lives in the real thing. I know, because I’ve stood right in front of it .. many times.. 🐸

Honest question, what would you like to see from @printr in the next two weeks?

I see people like @0xBiZzy @poe_real69 @Ga__ke @_Shadow36 @fibonacki talking about wanting better culture in the trenches. But where is the actual support for creators who genuinely build? I’ve spent 2 years building FRUG. Over 2500 hand-drawn pieces maybe more .. I lost count I am a traditional artist who left everything to come here in crypto with a dream. Ofcourse you may call it a casino but it’s not a casino for me. FRUG was born from getting rugged. It stands against rugs. Against the extraction culture that’s killing the trenches. Yet the only support I usually get is: “keep building bro” in DMs. Never got real mindshare which could help something authentic to grow. And I know I’m not alone. A lot of talented creators came here with passion, made great content, got ignored, then disappeared. So I genuinely want to understand: Is it because people don’t like the coin? Because there’s no volume? Because your friends aren’t in it? Or because most people only support projects that benefit their own bundle? If people with influence really want better trenches, shouldn’t they help small genuine projects instead of only chasing momentum? why should FRUG be considered “dead” while empty runners with no art, no story, and no mission get endlessly pushed?
