Even though her role was fully remote and did not require in-person contact with others, her exemption request was denied, and she was ultimately terminated. A federal jury in Detroit later ruled in her favor, finding that the company had engaged in religious discrimination. The jury awarded a total of $12.69 million in damages, including $10 million in punitive damages, with the remainder covering lost wages and emotional distress. The company stated it stands by its policy and is reviewing its legal options.
