NEW: Tennessee grandmother spends five months in jail after facial recognition links her to crimes in North Dakota, a state she says she never visited Angela Lipps, 50, was arrested at gunpoint by U.S. Marshals at her home in Elizabethton while babysitting four children She was held in jail for 108 days without bail and later flown to North Dakota on felony fraud charges The case stemmed from a Fargo investigation into someone using a fake U.S. Army ID to withdraw money Her attorneys provided records showing she was in Tennessee at the time of the alleged crimes. Lipps said it took five minutes of questioning for the case to fall apart She was released on Christmas Eve after charges were dismissed without prejudice. Fargo’s police chief later admitted investigators made multiple errors but did not apologize

@Christophe74732 @0HaroldCallahan @PoliceThePolic1 You can argue whether Mimms was a good ruling, but it’s abused. Almost zero cops know anything about it except “we can pull you out of the car whenever we want,” which is not really the ruling, but that’s how it’s used. They certainly know nothing about the dissenting opinion.

Just thinking of what you said. Most rulings are not in favor of the police . It’s just that the police listen to the court that tells them where they went wrong and the police listen. For example, Terry v Ohio was a case that was reign in police powers and contrast it with companion cases. The police follow the case so that’s why it’s cited so often and the companion cases aren’t as much . For example, the companion case to Terry . The stop was good but the officer immediately searched the suspect instead of doing a frisk first. They said that was no good .

Man arrested by cop for the crime of laughing One moment you’re laughing… the next you’re being detained. Situations like this show how quickly things can escalate. This is why we must know our rights!

@BarstoolBigCat Well, typically contact with a ref would earn you a tech, which would have likely cost UConn the game. But since he got away with it, I guess he’s the coolest.

Yeah I see this as two people just doing their job and likely it worked out just fine. With out-of-context snippets like this everyone just dumps their frustrations about their own lives onto it and their « take » is just them venting. I assume both guys here are good at their jobs and decent people.

@PleasantlySurly @AtRealBen Police can order you + passengers out of cars for no reason at all. Thanks to the SC being cunts back in the 70s. Cops are required to do so only if they reasonable believe you have a weapon and are a threat to them, but cops just use it to make people stand in the snow and rain.

The Supreme Court has ruled that officers can arrest for minor violations of the law including traffic infractions. People are often arrested for traffic infractions if they don’t have proper ID as a matter of procedure. However , the argument that the officer already issued the ticket and used his discretion is a powerful one. The car stop was essentially over unless the officer had a third and separate violation , but he didn’t .

Pharaoh would breed his big Hebrew man with his big Hebrew woman so that he could have a big Hebrew kid. That's where it all started. The Hebrew athletic talent is beautiful.

@PoliceThePolic1 To be fair, he wasn't arrested for laughing, it was because of the unsigned vehicle registration card. The laughing is what triggered the cop to change his mind and not let the guy off with a warning.

Linda Campitelli, a 35 year old nurse, was beaten to death with a tire iron on October 28, 2024, in the back of her husband Jon's Chevy Tahoe during a secret hookup in Palm Beach County, Florida. Her mother, Edina Russo, speaking publicly for the first time, expressed horror at the brutality "What kind of a human does that? Animals don't even do that"—and said she had no idea her daughter was cheating on her well-liked doctor husband at the time.

Genuinely hopes Ben McCollum stays at Iowa. Not because I think it’s fun that coaches stay loyal to smaller programs when a blue blood comes calling. I hope he falls victim to that loyalty gimmick. Because I want him to think that he can replicate this season again. Because he won’t. And it’ll eat him alive. Over a span of a decade it’ll deteriorate his marriage. He’ll periodically beat his kids in an alcoholic manic rage year after year of NIT runs and falling short of any sort of real success. Then in 20 years, when the .44 is in his mouth, and the tears are rolling down his face, he’ll wonder why he never took that higher job, and what could’ve been, in a regret-filled, pathetic life that will lead to nothing other than a 6 foot grave in Iowa City and some rusted out high school gym named after him

Mirkovic elbows Koch. No whistle. Sheesh. This is getting so bad. Like it’s happening so fast and it’s so physical, the officials are missing things left and right. #Hawkeyes

Cop loses his mind and has a meltdown because meter maid give him a ticket. You want to talk about entitled, this guy truly believes he operates under his own set of rules that supersedes the law. That said, you can bet if he was stopping someone he would hold them to the letter of the law.
