•At V3’s aspirational 100 tonnes/launch reusable → ~10,000 Starship launches per year (~27/day)
•All of SpaceX in 2025 was ~1,800–2,400 tonnes to orbit total — so a megaton is 400-500x current output
•Starship has flown 11 times total, still in test phase , with the V3 variant not yet flown
•Musk himself acknowledged real V2 performance closer to 40-50 tons, not the advertised 100+
So “designed to” is doing a lot of work. It’s not a near-term operational figure — it’s an aspirational architectural target that depends on cadence and per-flight performance neither of which Starship has demonstrated.
Reasonable skepticism is warranted, especially three weeks before an IPO.
Bottom line: the bragging chart is real, the megaton/year line is a marketing flex.
