@slime_machine To me it's that the movement/combat is polished to a point where it's rewarding to play the game regardless of skill level. Reminds me of some 3D Mario's where you can enjoy the game casually, but the movement is deep enough that there's a decently high skill ceiling

@NateForUtah This is as disconnected from the other side as I've ever felt. Numbers are objective. Regardless of my feelings on specific policies, it's just insane to add to the deficit to this level.

this is austerity, except without fixing the fundamental deficits that austerity measures are supposed to target. it just makes them worse, while the rich get richer.

@GovCox Sincerely can you please explain why we shouldn't be worried by how much this bill adds to the deficit? We don't even have to get into the weeds on specific policies, isn't it concerning to add so much to the deficit?

Today’s passage of the budget bill is a win for Utah families: it delivers meaningful tax relief, invests in energy abundance, and, thanks to bipartisan teamwork, preserves every state’s freedom to craft commonsense AI safeguards. Thanks to our delegation for getting it across the finish line.

@NateForUtah Am I crazy for thinking that it's okay for there to be vocal disruptions at a town hall? People have strong feelings about these things, why shouldn't they get to be loud about it sometimes?

@jkimballcook They don't seem to care about judicial precedent lately either, so I think their concern for common law is on the way out.

the solid conviction of the founders and really of English common law before them was that government wrongfully punishing the innocent is a far greater evil than government failing to punish every guilty person it's wild to me that so many don't share that conviction

@NotThatNATO @CodfishJohnny @pjaicomo @grok If it means occasionally a citizen is accidentally deported in the process of evicting millions of illegals I’m ok with that. It’s not like we won’t let them come back if they genuinely are citizens. Trump didn’t ask for this mess but he’s going to fix it.

@NateForUtah Been saying this for years. If they're that mad about federal taxes they should be jumping at every opportunity to get federal money back in Utah.

also this is kinda bullshit considering residents receive substantially more assistance (not a bad thing) and the state is just... not doing a good job at essentially taking home free money. why are our members of congress slacking off?

@LDS_Dems It mostly wins with moderates because we all play into the narrative.

@BeanBayless This is why I have always felt it should be decided at the local level with an eye centered on fairness. But we have to accept reality and at some point wave the white flag. Democrats need moderates to win and this issue kills them with moderates.

Even though trans girls competing in girls sports is a small, inconsequential problem that I think should be solved at a local level, I can tell you.. ... it is such a transparently bad idea that Democrats will lose a thousand elections until they finally learn to say no.

@LDS_Dems So they should make rules about what level of physical advantage is too unfair. Make it about fairness.

@BeanBayless No one cares when a trans boy joins the boys track team. Because he does not have any physical advantages. But we simply cannot pretend that masculine puberty does not offer physical advantages in sports. To do so would require eliminating girls sports all together.

@LDS_Dems I'm not even saying that there won't be times when a trans athlete should be prevented from participating for fairness, but I also don't think that's the case every time. This is so far from the top issue for fairness in women's sports that this is just transphobia.

@LDS_Dems I honestly think it's too generous to say it's about fairness. They don't care about fairness when it comes to low income schools or inability to pay for private coaching or similar situations. They don't want fairness they just hate trans kids.

@LDS_Dems Blanket bans shouldn't be a winning position. Heavy handed government is supposed to be unpopular with conservatives. If the right actually wanted to support women athletes they would do so consistently. They don't actually support women they just hate trans people.

@LDS_Dems I don't understand how so many people have supposedly turned into single issue voters over this. The Republicans have so many "transparently bad ideas" yet people ignore them. I feel like this take ignores nuance and just normalizes transphobia which is what the right wants.

@votereale @RobertGehrke The teachers I know that have been strict about no phones have had a LOT of pushback from students and even some from parents. Big fan of less phones/no phones, but it's going to take a lot of work for the student culture to actually shift.

@RobertGehrke Weird. I thought they didn't want teachers stepping in as the role of parents? Do I want less phones in the classroom? Yes. Do I think parents ALSO need to be responsible (phone settings, rules at home, etc)? Yes. Do I think this is going to be hard for teachers to manage? YES

The Senate just passed a bill that would prohibit students from having cell phones during class time. Local districts could still adopt policies to affirmatively allow phones but if they don't the state policy would be to ban them. Vote was 22-2. Now moves to the House.

the other day somebody was trying to tell me that the church's previous statements on immigration are outdated and the church wouldn't say the same thing today that was incorrect, the church's position is consistent, reiterating the same principles it has invoked in the past
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints@Ch_JesusChrist

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has reiterated principles and communicated guidelines to local leaders in the United States regarding immigration issues.  As disciples of Jesus Christ, the following principles guide the Church’s approach: 1. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints obeys the law. 2. We follow Jesus Christ by loving our neighbors. The Savior taught that the meaning of “neighbor” includes all of God’s children. 3. We seek to provide basic food and clothing, as our capacity allows, to those in need, regardless of their immigration status. We are especially concerned about keeping families together. The guidance closely follows statements made previously on these issues, which are available on the Church website. The Office of General Counsel (OGC) has created guidelines to help local leaders comply with federal laws that criminalize harboring, transporting, or encouraging undocumented immigrants to remain in the United States. OGC also carefully tracks legal developments to ensure local outreach and area-initiated humanitarian activities are appropriate. Local leaders should be in contact with the Office of General Counsel for further information.

@votereale It's disappointing seeing how my reps voted and also seeing social media posts from my teacher friends. I know that my reps see those posts and talk to those teachers, and it hurts knowing that they're just choosing to ignore teachers (and parents, and students)

Hard day at the #utleg for me. I always wonder what is in the minds of our reps when they get "thousands of emails from teachers against this bill" and hear dozens of public comment from folks against a different bill... to just.... go and to vote the opposite?
Vanessa Hudson@vanessamwrites

Almost a full house as people stream in to hear the Senate Education Committee discuss HB269, the bill that would restrict which dorms transgender students can live in. #utpol

I look forward to working with the incoming Trump administration to protect the safety of Utahns by deporting illegal immigrants who commit crimes. With adequate cooperation from ICE, we will identify, detain, and deport those who pose a threat to our communities.

I stand with the students, coaches and leadership at @SUUtbirds and @USUAggies in their decision to forgo their women’s volleyball matches against San Jose State.   It is essential that we preserve a space for women to compete fairly and safely. Our female athletes are left grappling with this difficult issue because the NCAA has failed in its responsibility to protect female athletes and women’s sports. It’s time for the NCAA to take this seriously and protect our female student athletes.
