@Steve_Kicinski That’s a good way to go about it. Unfortunately it’s just me so I gotta work with what I get.

I help a friend of mine regularly cut and split firewood he acquired for free. Some longer chunks and some shorter. We generally stack the pieces that are too long until we have a good sized pile (maybe a face cord ish) then we spend an hour or so with a chainsaw trimming 4-6 inches off them so they’ll fit in his stove. Goes pretty quick with 2 people. Would be hard with just 1.

The quality of free wood? The pros and cons?

@BearWoodFire I’m in Commiefornia. My fireplace is gas. Wood 🪵 burning here is almost extinct. That have what they call no burn days so you can’t even use your fireplace or they will fine you. Some BS about air quality.

All the red Oak is split and tomorrow A BL will be splitting all the white oak ano pine! Cords are filling up fast! When do you start splitting for next winter?

@patriot714_ I usually split everything I can in a day and then stack the next day. Less than a hour. I actually enjoy stacking the wood.

@BearWoodFire How long does it take to stack it all when you're done splitting?

Oak and maple rounds all split! Got least a cord and a half done in 2 hours. How long does it take you to process a cord?

@VtJopeters @BearWoodFire I was thinking they looked like red maple as well. Should split well! I just got done splitting and stacking a bunch of that.

@jen12692612 It dries faster. Burns more efficiently.

@BearWoodFire Why do you make the pieces so small? When I lived in the Poconos and had the wood stove, we loved the larger pieces of wood because we could pack the stove and forget about it. I'm just curious.

This fresh Red Oak was the roughest wood I have split to date. The Timberwolf struggled a little bit but powered through. What's your worst wood that you split?
