In 1994 at the Game Developer Conference I was asked at a panel why Doom was all about targeting and shooting, and asked why it couldn't be more restrained. I guess they can't stand the idea of someone enjoying something different from them. Actually had a guy say once, "Can't we talk to the demons?" I replied, "The demon says 'Your mother sucks cocks in Hell!' and attacks." He was mad.
