Your local school district is probably doing a "coat drive" right now where they raise funds to buy coats for kids who need them. If you've got the means to donate, this is a pretty easy way to materially improve the lives of young people .

@BeardyWheat Oh I'm definitely not smart enough to prove myself right. Best I can usually do is "Let's assume we're probably wrong about something. How do we do this work so that fixing whatever we're wrong about probably won't totally suck?"

@PJUllrich This is a case where I'll reach for Docker containers ... not because I particularly like Docker, but at least I can create a dockerfile that sets up the right dependencies. Also I'll do lots of crying. That too.
