@igor_os777 "Why 8 levels?" Same reason as Gates's famous quote about memory. They thought it was enough to be future proof at the time & were mistaken. Then shit happened.

ISO 9660 (1988) CD-ROM filesystem only allowed eight nested directory levels. Why? Who knows. Need deeper hierarchy? Tough luck. Later extensions (Rock Ridge, Joliet) relaxed rules, but burning CDs or mounting old ISO images occasionally resurrects archaic directory-depth demons. ISO9660: a filesystem fossilized in amber—painfully limited, eternally annoying.

@kmcnam1 Same is true with Laser printers, but they don't fleece you near as much per print on the toner carts.

@kmcnam1 They put "starter cartridges" in new printers, with a reduced ink content. They then sell you properly filled ones (at inflated prices). You get similarly screwed either way. If you print enough for it to matter, go laser. Ideally at least "workgroup" spec. Inkjets == scam.

@tuomosa Detested SystemD from day one, generally avoid it where possible, btrfs I've been less bothered about, snapshots matter & LVM is also a PITA & from similar sources. Lennart Poettering is a C You Next Tuesday.

Not just a grumpy unix greybeard here. I'm against #systemd (and similar mega-components like btrfs) because they destroy Unix composability: small, replaceable tools that lone hackers/small teams can actually fix, extend, or rewrite. Huge multi-million loc systems become anti-foss: too complex for individuals, owned & directed by whoever has the money & manpower. Capitalism fine, but anti-hacker centralization is not. #RUNBSD

@leighkeystone Why would I vote for Tories (MK1 or 2)? They've already proved they won't fix shit even if they theoretically could. Liars the lot of them. If Restore can't win I'm staying home come the next GE, because nobody else will make a material difference.

Restore is a man tweeting from his attic room—they’re not going to save us. You have to be real here. Reform is the only possible route, a starting point. We really are in trouble—you know it, I know it. Don't be a fantasist. We are fighting a leftist coalition of evil.

@ArtistCyclist I don't use a camera at all on mine. I've noticed they attract incidents, which I rarely if ever encounter. It could theoretically be tied to the mentality of those who choose to fit one. I couldn't possibly comment.

I use two Cycliq Fly12 Sport cameras on my bike. They are expensive but the 2.7k recording and image stabilisation provides plenty of detail to determine the VRM of offending vehicles. The cameras are mounted forward and rearward facing, centrally on my bike.

The UK isn’t just regulating the internet. Now, regulators want oversight of streaming platforms like Netflix and Hulu for “harmful” content. When governments police what counts as “offensive,” companies may think twice about what shows they stream. 🎥: @sarahemclaugh
