Uhh… No. Where I live, there’s a major railroad which offers wages equivalent $75k (in a very low cost of living area, so that’s like $150k in NYC or LA) to start plus full benefits. They have ads up on TV, radio and billboards everywhere, and they can’t find applicants. In the oilfields of Texas and Oklahoma, you can go get a job that pays well into six figures with a few years of experience, and all you need is just a regular driver’s license. And so on and so forth. The problem isn’t “the system.” The problem is that we’ve raised multiple generations of lazy, spoiled brats who think spending $200k they don’t have on a worthless piece of paper from a university entitles them to never have to do any kind of actual work. There are only so many openings for the easy, cushy, make-work email jobs that you can do from home in your pajamas while you watch Netflix all day. When an entire generation turns their noses up at any kind of real work, the wages for the jobs they will do fall to the basic subsistence level. It’s literally just basic supply and demand.
