Why haven’t you committed yet? I get asked every day. Thought I’d share my answer, hope it helps other players. Quick summary of my journey: Gymnastics was main sport until 9th grade Played NLC soccer until 11th grade Joined Michigan Hawks, first season of ECNL fall 2025 NLC Championship at ESPN in Orlando last June. Just named 2nd Team All-State and decided I want to play soccer in college. Too late, you aren’t under the radar - you aren’t even ON THE RADAR, not good enough, average speed, poor foot skills, low soccer IQ, never played good competition. Haters gonna’ hate:) My ‘Get Recruited & Prove Em' Wrong Starter Kit’: 1. Brutal choice to change teams = MI Hawks ECNL 2. Switched to center back, where I was born to play 3. Created YouTube channel, now over 100 highlights 4. Created X account, goal to post every day for a year 5. Asked coaches for ‘brutal honesty’, listened, worked 6. Daily foot skill practice, lived in the gym 7. Researched colleges, created my selection criteria 8. Emailed coaches from my top 50 2-3 times a month 9. Signed up for College ID Camps Selection criteria, the most important step: 1. Academics & top rated healthcare program 2. Soccer, Playing > Division, Win, Coach, Facilities 3. Location (Weather, water or big city) 4. School Size - Ideally 5k to 15k students 5. Be Honest - Bottom D1, Top D2, high academic D3 6. Stretch Schools - Belmont, Coastal Carolina, College of Charleston, UNC Wilmington, Mercer, UNC Charlotte, Florida Atlantic, Florida Gulf Coast, George Washington, Boston University, Univ of Tampa, Emory. 7. Plan B - 4.0 gpa, if soccer doesn’t work out, play club at Michigan, Indiana, North Carolina, Florida. Fast Forward to Now: (June 2025, 0 highlights, 0 twitter, 0 coach interviews, 0 showcases, trap player) 1. 70+ schools contacted me: 30 D1, 25 D2 (10 in Top 15 Rankings), 15 D3 2. 12 ID Camps - Coin flip. Half started recruiting, half ghosted. Trust the process, not the silence. 3. 20 calls with coaches, 10 programs actively recruiting, multiple offers I’m excited about Why Haven’t I Said 'Yes'? 1. I’ve played 1 fall season of ECNL and 1 showcase. The world is still meeting me. 2. Improving too rapidly to stop process, betting on me 3. Refuse to trade top degree for a jersey or division 4. What I’m doing is working. I started later, I’m not caught up in other people’s timelines. 5. Not much interest from my stretch schools yet. Late Bloomers, Off the Radar Underdogs, Not Good Enoughs & Too Lates! 1. Invest more in grades than cleats. GPA = options 2. Don’t quit and prove the haters were right 3. Trust your gut. Losing team, lots of transfers, not vibing w/coach, too far away, politely move on. What's Your Story? @IJaSport As an ex pro, I’d say Messi’s eyes are rarely, if ever, straight down locked on the ball. As a youth coach, I teach “angle eyes”. Focus straight down, zero peripheral vision. Focus straight ahead, can’t see the ball. Focus 2 yds in front of the ball, magic happens.

One of the biggest misconceptions that needs to change in the coaching world is..."Head up when you're dribbling." This simply is not true or even possible. The truth is just like everything else, choosing the right moment to look up/down is the skill.
stanfromwestport@stanfromwp

@PaulSpacey Moves deftly to be sure...Needs a bit more eyes up when in possession which may come with more experience and confidence in knowing the ball at his feet is where he thinks it is...

@BeauIgor No and no. The players don’t value it either all that much. They will come home after an 0-2 weekend and still say verbatim “but I played well and _______ coaches were there and they are interested.”

Let’s chat about “WINNING OVER DEVELOPMENT.” We’ve made winning not matter at all. Which means we’ve also allowed losing to not matter at all. We’ve developed a generation of players that aren’t bothered with losing. If you’re okay with losing, what does that make you?

@Caleb_Jephte My father loved Manno Sanon. My question is this, is there a Haitian Footballer that has or has had a standing as prominent as Melchie Dumornay? She is one of the best in Europe. She is the best in Concacaf. I am not familiar enough to speak to Afcon and Conmebol.

Nan kesyon talan, reyalizasyon ak reprezantasyon, Corventina make anpil pwen. E chak jou ki pase, l ap antre plis nan listwa pou fason l enpoze l sou teren yo. Manno Sanon, Guy Saint-Vil, Philippe Vorbe, Solange Maître, Viola Nord oubyen yon lòt ? Men non... Pou Patrice Dumont ki t ap pale nan mikwo JWD, Melchie Dumornay se pi gwo foutbolè ki soti an Ayiti nan tout kategori nèt ansanm. 🇭🇹

@ImYouthSoccer You listed and we discussed it at the time GA was adding clubs. They added mostly poorly (to fair) performing clubs from the ECNL and really low ranking clubs from USYS. Growing has not helped their quality of play.

🚨Did you realize the #GirlsAcademy and #ECNL are the same size as the GA has had rapid expansion over the past 3 years but unfortunately during that time D1 program Showcase attendance has declined year over year.
ECNL/GA/Recruiting/College Soccer tweet media
ECNL/GA/Recruiting/College Soccer@ImYouthSoccer

🚨The data doesn’t lie. 📈 We crunched the showcase numbers for Division 1 programs over the last three seasons across the ECNL and Girls Academy to see exactly how the collegiate pipeline is flowing. ⚽️💨 Here is the reality of youth soccer recruitment right now: 1️⃣ EFFICIENCY MATTERS While both leagues are massive, showcase attendance varies. In the 24/25 season, ECNL events averaged 157 D1 programs per their 9 showcases, while the 5 GA events averaged 101. Both offer great exposure, but the concentration per event differs, the number of events differs and the opportunity to be seen is far superior in the ECNL.It is important to note that we tracked D1 PROGRAMS so at some events a program would bring their whole coaching staff but that would count as one Program as that was the easiest way to compare. You will see some of the leagues say, “We have 600 coaches attend which is every college level and every coach”. We tracked this data directly from the ECNL and Girls Academy provided data. 2️⃣ THE POWER 4 PATHWAY When looking specifically at Power 4 commitments for the Classes of '26 and '27, the ECNL currently holds about 74-77% of that market share, with the GA securing a strong ~17%. 3️⃣ THE LANDSCAPE HAS SHIFTED Forget the old narratives. The ECNL (128 elite clubs) and the Girls Academy Elite Tier (127 elite clubs) are now virtually identical in scale and number of players. We have two massive national platforms where 90% of all D1 players in the United States are recruited. Across the 349 D1 programs, based on data from the Class of 2026, the ECNL is leading the way with over 70%, the Girls Academy is at 20% and remaining comes from the ECNL-RL (5%) and USYS/Other (5%). THE BOTTOM LINE: National Showcases are the primary stage where D1 and Power 4 programs identify top talent as they want to see players 3-6 times against high level competition. If you want greatly increase your chances play at the D1 level, being on these fields is a requirement. Get seen. Get recruited. 🎯 WHICH STAT surprises you the most in the 8 slides below? @ImCollegeSoccer If you want D1, then 1 and 2 must be at the ECNL level. For most players, GA, ECNL-RL, etc. will not get you in front of the right coaches. NO ECNL club in your immediate area, then join the closest one you can find and commute.

@_treacherous_13 For brief period, I thought she was the best player in the US and maybe the World. The olympic delay due to Covid really hurt her ability to showcase her talent at a global level. She had suffered an unfortunate injury.

@IHateSoccerPod If you look at the ECNL vs. MLS Next boys situation. Almost every club made a decision that would benefit the boys. They chose MLS Next. Why? More $$$ is in the boys game (more players). Thus, their girls first teams were placed in a good but lesser league - GA.

@d1scholarship Agree, they need coaching and they absolutely need your wisdom. College Soccer is a business. Your child at 16 or 17 is talking to a representative of a multi-million dollar org. It would be completely fool hardy to send them into that business interaction on their own.

As a parent, you're told not to help your kid with recruiting. "This is their dream, not yours" "If they want it, they'll do the work" No, they won't. They're 16, and it's a full time job. It's entirely possible your kid wants it badly, but is too overwhelmed to do the work.

@TweetsbyCoachP There is a bigger issue for families that hits the pocket book and family time very hard. If you don't play on a club, you will have little chance of making your HS team. This pressure also fuels the pt you brought up.

I love soccer parents that rip on either the ECNL or MLSNext with sentences like “we aren’t in the ECNL or MLSNext and we kill those teams when we play! Those teams suck!” Not knowing that their club has tried to get into the ECNL and/or MLSNext for years & got turned down. 😂
