It’s always crazy to me that Shaedon Sharpe basically went from high school to the NBA. Never played at Kentucky, still got drafted No. 7 and averaged 20 ppg this season. Only 22.

The easiest way I'd break this down:
The Pacers have 2 guaranteed years left with Hali and Siakam. As a FO you gotta do everything in your power to contend in that window. 5-9 is almost all guards and they needed a center. They got an all-league defender on a great contract and they still have tradable firsts in the bank. If it stays in the top 4 great, but i think people are over exaggerating the "gamble" taken.
