I was a child protection worker for seven yrs-with a 100% Aboriginal caseload in the Goldfields. In that time I didn’t remove one child. I also didn’t leave a child in an abusive situation. That’s because EVERY Aboriginal family came to attention SOLELY due to struggling with parenting & trauma & attachment from their own removal from family-so I proactively did everything in my power to provide the skills/intensive therapy they needed to stay together. Aboriginal kids in a horrific 82% of cases are being removed for “neglect” -a very preventable thing-we have a system that provides no opportunities for Aboriginal families to heal-removal is a foregone conclusion once they are flagged by the system.

The deliberate naivety of middle-aged men about young women is astonishing Ignorantly gobsmacking in fact Young women are raised to be compliant & polite; not make a fuss, not assert themselves. Young women aren't confident enough yet. They'll often do anything to appease 1/

Referendums are simply about voting on a principle. The principle is whether we should recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as our First peoples… Saying Yes to this principle is a good and honourable thing to do.

By calling for a second referendum no one wants, Peter Dutton is wilfully ignoring First Nations Australian's calls for a Voice. In doing so he is showing us exactly why we need one.

It is just plain sick that leaders of the NO case complain that Voice issue has divided the nation when this has been their end game all along.

“Yes” isn’t the fix. There still a mountain of work to be done. However I’ll take my cues from these leaders who’ve worked in policy since before I was born.

Activism is hard, but black activism is much harder. It requires that you motivate whole populations on issues that impact on just 3% of the population. We rely on white Australians to amplify black issues and that’s a reality for anyone who has ever tried to amplify the pain of black people. White people react more; when white people amplify black pain. Equality will always be a challenge when it remains the responsibility of the oppressed, those with the least power; the least privilege to fix a problem created by the oppressor. To challenge systems to change to that have always benefitted the most  privileged creates fear. A sugar high of racism generated by this confected idea of the loss of human rights; to be stolen by those who have little to begin with and are simply trying to level out the playing field.

“We have done it their way for long enough. It is definitely not working for our peoples, but as well as that, it doesn’t seem to be working well for any people!” @DaniManton on the current state of healthcare
