@realgirl_fieri THIS. I really wish "gentle" parenting had been called "assertive" or something instead.
Literally all of the research on this is actually about... authoritative parenting. Which we've known about for decades already. It's the instagrammification of it that's new.

@throeingit Yeah I'm surprised it's not talked about more since it's so common! Like you'd think at the 6 week appointment they'd say, "Btw, just take it easy on the drinks--your tolerance may be different"
English

@sewistwrites I quite enjoyed wine or a good cider, but I found that my taste buds CHANGED after pregnancy. I no longer like it at all. Plus, I'm a massive lightweight now--I get tipsy after half a drink.
That + my husband being on a massive health kick = we just don't drink anymore.

My single lady friends… let me tell you:
There are men who will look at you with tears in their eyes as you hold their newborn child. Who will come home, make sure you have everything you need, cook for you, and gladly take care of you as you adjust to life with a baby that literally needs you to keep them alive.
There are men who will watch your body change, and lovingly call your stretch marks your “battle scars” and appreciate that you literally give up your body to help him create a family. He will not make you feel bad for fluctuating weight. He will not get bored when you are overwhelmed and have a dry patch.
There are men, who when you tearfully tell them that your body cannot handle any more, and it is in pain, they will loving wait months for you to get the care you need to get yourself better. Whether it’s PT, or surgery, or whatever your doc says you need, they will be patient.
Because real men, who have married you with a lifetime in mind, know that 6 weeks out of thousands, will not matter. They know that months out of hundreds, is really just a drop in the bucket. They know, that loving you means more than their physical needs.
They are out there. They exist. Be patient and wait for them.

@peachsweet_tea Honestly? Yeah. For me it was first sight. I went home and told my mom that I met a bunch of people but only one caught my eye.
We started dating four months later, and after the first date I was done for. Going on ten years now, with two of the sweetest little kiddos ever :)

@M_Jensen23 I think people think that it's all these one-room-schoolhouse, mom is the only teacher, kind of situations. There are tons of options, there have been for YEARS. I did distance learning for certain subjects even, back in the mid 2000s through early 2010s. It's even better now.
English

@M_Jensen23 Absolutely. We're planning on homeschooling the whole way, but in Ontario there's a ton of help for homeschooling parents. We'll be able to put our kids in public school for science classes and labs, for example, if we want to. There's online high school options (i did this).
English

@M_Jensen23 @bmakuh This is why my husband was homeschooled, too. He was bullied so mercilessly at age SIX that his mom pulled him out of school for five years. It was an awesome experience for him, he built confidence and resilience and when he went back to school he integrated fine.
English

@bmakuh My best friend's older brother was homeschooled cause he was bullied to the point of severe depression by 7th grade. Like maybe he's a little awkward but he's alive and anyone who says his parents made a selfish choice can gfto
English

@M_Jensen23 I know kids who were educationally neglected, I know kids who were socially stunted due to homeschooling, absolutely.
I DO also know public school kids who were educationally neglected and socially stunted, too, just for different reasons.
But the benefits were WILD for me.
English

@M_Jensen23 Yes, I feel like homeschooling has been painted as a monolith when it's actually quite varied and there ARE non-toxic, incredibly beneficial streams of it.
I graduated summa cum laude from a great university, with the highest scholarship amount of any of my friends.
English

@M_Jensen23 I think that this is also an issue of confirmation bias--many people knew me for years before realizing I had been homeschooled.
So if you've met 12 homeschooled people, and 1-2 of them were deeply strange, it may be that you don't realize how many homeschoooled ppl you know.
English

@taylorsschumann I choose to believe that it's everyone saying, "No, you do know this guy, see it's the guy who did this song--"

@sheilagregoire @PastorTrey05 @AngieKSanderson My mind immediately went there, too.

Aight, I try & stay outta WPB™️ when possible, but this is one of those things that transgresses *white* evangelicalism in the macro.
For the uninitiated: the man in this video just got “sat down” for an “inappropriate” relationship with a woman that was not his wife… 1/10

Steve Lawson, addressing a sexually immoral pastor: “You are the fool of all fools for 15 seconds of gratification. Now you’re no longer a pastor… what a fool you were to sacrifice an entire life of ministry for 20 seconds of sin.”
