@iconawrites Having watched & enjoyed the series on Apple TV (I think it has got up to the end of book 2?) I've been considering reading this. Good to hear it is well-written.

@BlogSpells @GilesKristian Oh fab, thanks. Sounds like my kind of fiction.
English

@BeckyOB2 @GilesKristian It may be easier to read my review!
But the sheer craft involved to make me feel so emotional reading it, which I have always struggled to feel in fiction. I'm always conscious it's just a story. In these books, I was so immersed it changed everything.

Last year I discovered my favourite ever book - Lancelot by @GilesKristian.
Kristian's Arthurian Tales trilogy continues to live rent-free in my head. I shouldn't, but I can't help but judge other books against it. I wish I could experience it all over again.
Spectacular.

@pinhigh99 @WillotheGlen @SketchesbyBoze You *can*. I, however often find myself mentally "correcting" the way a line has been said by a narrator, because I don't agree with their reading. Also I don't know if my reading of that line is closer to the authorial intent, so perhaps "muddied" is more accurate than "lost"?
English

@WillotheGlen @SketchesbyBoze Only difference between reading actual books and audiobooks is you lose the authors intent in how the dialogue is delivered by whoever is reading it.

My book "Illustrating The Lord of the Rings in the Soviet Bloc" has a cover! Featuring art by the most excellent Yassen Panov, illustrator of the 1990-1991 Bulgarian #LOTR translation. It's scheduled for release on September 18th #Tolkien @BloomsburyAcad

@JosephhhWhite @realRichardCase @Natures_Voice Quite a few left in London. Think the only reason I've not seen many today is the feeder needs a refill.
English

@realRichardCase @Natures_Voice Yep, they’ve declined considerably and are now on the red list.
English

@marlapropism @diamondgeezer Seems it was a precursor to & later a contemporary of (the early days of) the Travelcard, allowing access to rail, Tube & bus around London.
English

@SlowWaysUK I've also been known to wear my orange raincover on my left arm to make myself more visible to cars when I've ended up somewhere where I've ended up walking on a road & felt in danger.
English

@SlowWaysUK & no verge. I had to turn back & get to safety. I'm of the opinion that living in London I have easier & safer access to more countryside than many living in more rural areas. Defintely the case if they can't drive & aren't in a public footpath hotspot. 2/2

Should it be possible to walk to every address in the country? We think so!🏡 🚶♀️
At Slow Ways, we know from our work that too many people are not able to walk safely to schools, pubs, doctors, libraries or to see family or friends because of dangerous roads.
Too many people are risking their safety - or not walking places at all - because the options are not safe enough, and we're trying to do something about it.
Ever had to walk a dangerous route to get where you were going? Or maybe it's a daily occurrence where you live? Let us know in the comments!

@passedwonder @SlowWaysUK A friend of mine did that stretch. The locals in the pub laughed when he said he was waiting for the bus & advised that a taxi was the only real option: advice that he took.
English

@SlowWaysUK A while back, I walked Gravesend to Cliffe along the #Thames. Lovely day, beautiful views.
When I got to Cliffe, it was either wait ages for a bus, or walk to Higham. I walked some - until the grassy verge disappeared, and I worried about fast cars. So then I waited.

@Takaak1M Never tried it myself, but the on-screen team @sortedfood who are all white British have tried it more than once and not got on well with it. Watching their experiences has given me somewhat of an idea at how different it is to the cuisine I'm used to.
Kudos to your wife!

Japan’s “nattō” exports have doubled over the past six years to 3,300 tons in 2023, with particular growth in demand seen in China. nippon.com/en/japan-data/…

@ElliottBlackwe3 Ooh that's lovely! It's on the only part of the Thames downriver from Oxford that I haven't walked, so I shall have to remedy that & visit this.

@sortedfood My rice pudding from the cook-a-long. I was the Becky cleaning burnt split milk from her stove top that Baz sent sympathy to! Great rice pud, strong in cinnamon & good with the summer fruit I got on quick sale. Just wish the skin was thicker (always the best bit!)

@sortedfood
Here's my savoury beef cobbler from the cook-a-long. Put onion in the beef, cheddar & no spring onion in the cobbler, & was delicious.
Next time I'll use smoked cheese in the dumplings & some Worcester sauce in the beef for some extra flavour.
