Tried my hand at a bit of coaching last week with my friend @Beestera_James and learned a lot from how he built a clear chunk of knowledge.

Exciting day. Just got my copy of the new book. Looks great. Available starting tomorrow. Thanks to @olicav @DanielCoyle @JohncattUSA @JohnCattEd and all the fantastic coaches who contributed.

Open this tweet and weep. 😢
And then ask yourselves why some people think we are extreme for banning phones at school.
Parents - Same thing is happening with your kids at home!
Love your kids and take the phone away. At the very least, use Screentime.
Set your children free.

Great post from @Beestera_James on getting more from coaching observations by just focusing on words...equally applicable for coaching and teaching sessions.

Coach James gives 5 takeaways on an uncomfortable way for a coach to self-reflect by stripping away the visual to focus on the quality of the coaching point’s audio. The post also mentions @Doug_Lemov & @TOMOWENS_UK and their work with feedback

For Coaches:
The second stoppage was almost as well done as the first but it had the result essentially of erasing the first one from players’ working memory.

After the coach said “Play,” you could see the girls using the idea… applying and adapting it… you could see the change in their movements. It was powerful.
But only for a little while….

@Ari_Levit @Doug_Lemov Thanks for sharing! Agreed that many of the Uncommon strategies are very effective on the field, as well as classrooms

James does a great job in this video of using Cold Call, Turn & Talk, and Wait Time to cause the athletes he's coaching to do more of the cognitive work.
Is there something you could steal from this, coaches?

Coaches/teachers - Are you creating a Growth Environment for your players?
Creating a Growth Environment Takes: A Plan, intentionality, a system to manage it, a process to correct it

Excuse the swearing, but how impressive is this? Half-time, 3-1 down away at the Champions League winners. His ability to maintain intensity of the talk in German and English is brilliant 👏
Darian Wilken@CoachDarian
Great insight into the half-time talk from Jesse Marsch in their game vs Liverpool. Interesting to note the emphasis placed group cohesion and re-aligning mentality before addressing any tactical components.

Coaches give two kinds of feedback and they can help athletes succeed by aligning them.
