I was able to have a really lovely conversation with my longtime mutual A*, @BeforeMorning__, when she and I received acupuncture from my beloved Michael, @michaeltong_, in the teahouse! I'd never had acupuncture done before, but her company and Michael's presence made it so fun.

in the context of processing emotions you'll hear people talk about processing fear, sadness, anger, grief, shame, guilt. i hear very little talk about processing disgust, but disgust specifically comes up for me all the time. i am constantly making disgusted faces. i used to think on some level anger might be the most difficult emotion to talk about processing (as distinct from processing) because it feels in some way unavoidably political but now i'm wondering if it might be disgust because of the way disgust is tangled up with morality (and politics)
the disgust is there because of things that happened to me and people i care about that were morally disgusting. there's a certain rationalist (in the broad sense) move of dismissing disgust as somehow unenlightened or parochial, this idea that you should override and ignore your disgust response to things if you can't find a good actual argument against them, and similarly a rationalist (in the bay area sense) thing of being unusually dissociated from disgust. unsurprisingly, a community of people who are unusually dissociated from disgust are at risk of doing disgusting things to each other
disgust is an extremely informative and finely tuned emotion. it is about homeostasis and boundaries, not in the thin therapeutic sense but in the biological sense. the things that stereotypically trigger disgust are things that poison and disease you, that corrupt and undermine your ability to function biologically. disgust is a natural reaction to people trying to invade you, trying to put things inside of you that shouldn't be there, trying to parasitize or vampirize you - boundary violations in a strong sense

@justlovemeghan Heard a lot of people say “this is how it should be”
High trust, connection, boundaries, fun

Friends! If you want to talk to me about vibecamp, and how beauty can save the world, in a more formal interview setting (anonymous name/pseudonym fine), set up an interview slot with me sometime in July! calendly.com/burtont-cua/in…

@mkultra_gf @funplings I too am very much in friends with someone and idk if they feel the same so I’m too scared to @ them
English

@funplings I’ve heard this described as being very “in friends” with someone
It’s very good! We should be allowed to adore our friends, especially after vibecamp ^^

sometimes i like a person very much. not in a romantic way just like. they make me very happy when im around them and their vibes are immaculate. my feelings are so strong that i hesitate to even express it to them directly because i'm worried they will be creeped out by how much i like them relative to how well we know each other (so far!). so i hold this love in my heart silently and hope it comes out in subtle ways whenever i interact with them :)
