Austin market right now: 16,064 active listings. Median price — slightly down year-over-year, but down 19% from the peak in May 2022. 5.6 months of inventory. Buyers have real leverage. Most people are sitting on the sidelines waiting for 'the bottom.' The bottom doesn't ring a bell. This is as close as you'll get a warning.

I’m also not moving just for taxes. It’s a piece of the puzzle. I don’t feel culturally aligned with where the West Coast is anymore and Portland in particular has really struggled post Covid so I’m moving for quality of life and cultural fit. I also want to have a better tax picture at the end of the day.

If you’re wondering why #WOTCStaff is unionizing. Seattle news lists 182k needed to buy a med home priced at ~832k. Austin TX median home is $426k w/ $132k annual salary needed to buy. Many people working at WOTC can’t afford to buy a house while @Hasbro made $1B in profits.

@BcdLegacy @Hasbro Yeah, I had to put my girls in private school in Portland and they do a language immersion program so they will continue in Austin.

@BeldinAndrew @Hasbro We’re also sending our kids to private school in TX bc public schools here are so crowded and underfunded. In OH we’re doing public for a top rated district in the state.

@BcdLegacy @Hasbro I was down last week looking at houses. TX has a much better tax picture than Oregon, and WA just approved an income tax. I’ve lived on the west coast all my life. The PNW hasn’t emerged well from COVID and portland in particular is terrible. So, we’re leaving.

@BeldinAndrew @Hasbro Austin isn’t cheap anymore compared to other parts of TX but housing in general is cheaper in TX than WA. However real property tax is high in Texas so is sales tax. TX is a high tax jurisdiction. Infrastructure, education, healthcare, and public services are also terrible in TX.
