38yrs ago today, 19th March 1988, horrific scenes were about to be aired on the news. Two soldiers in N. Ireland mobbed, beaten & murdered after accidentally driving into the path of an IRA funeral procession. Remembering Cpl Derek Wood & Cpl David Howes Royal Corps of Signals. Against all logic I hope that wasn’t the end, that you haven’t been resting in peace, instead you’ve been somewhere better all this time. Bless you lads.

#OnThisDay in 1988, the PIRA brutally murdered British Army Corporals Derek Tony Wood, age 24 (known as Del) & David Robert Howes, age 23 (known as Bob), of the 15 Signals Regiment. They were two plain clothed soldiers driving in West Belfast when they were viciously murdered after accidentally straying into the path of an IRA funeral procession. As they tried to leave the scene, their car was surrounded and attacked. During this, Corporal Wood drew his service pistol and fired a warning shot into the air. The soldiers were then dragged from the car, beaten, and taken to nearby waste ground where they were stripped, beaten, allegedly raped and shot dead. #LestWeForget 🕊
