$BELLS, $DOGE, and $PEP don’t each need their own separate Scrypt army. They use AuxPoW merged mining. That means a miner can point hash at Litecoin and reuse that same proof-of-work to help secure multiple opted-in chains at once. DOGE has done it since 2014. BELLS activated it at block 144,000 in Aug. 2024. PEP enabled AuxPow at block 42,000 in 2024. Important nuance: they don’t inherit all LTC hashrate automatically - only the hashpower of miners and pools that opt in. That’s why merged mining matters: shared security, no split effort, multiple PoW networks secured by the same work.

dogecoin lore - unlike bitcoin's fixed rewards for solving a block, dogecoin started with random rewards (between 1-1m) cuz i thought it’d be funny turns out you could figure out the next block reward and miners wouldn’t mine lower rewards so we had to remove the randomness 😭
