Leaving no one behind Extreme weather events like torrential rains have become more frequent in Kerala. Migrants miss the alerts which are in local language. CMID prepared messages for migrants in languages including Bengali, Odia & Tamil so that they are more climate resilient.

Voting is not a right for 1000s of #MigrantWorkers. Going to their hometowns for voting means loss of wage for days & additional expenditure. So, many of them prefer to stay back. Major parts of Hindi heartland, from where most of the workers come from, goes to poll from phase 3.

What a brilliantly scathing report from @TheEconomist. Like it or not, this puts India, where the current Govt, which has very little interest in public health, in a very tough place. Turmeric is the golden spice that you never thought is killing you and your children softly. "The heart and brain diseases it causes—to which children are especially susceptible—accounted for at least 1.4m deaths in South Asia in 2019." "Yet adulterated turmeric looks like a major culprit almost everywhere, chiefly owing to poor practice in India, which produces 75% of the spice. India was the source of much of the poisonous pigment found in Bangladesh and is estimated to have the highest incidence of lead poisoning of any country." And this is excluding potential lead poisoning sources from herbal medicines and supplements that children, adolescents, adults and the elderly consume daily in India. Bangladesh is winning against turmeric related public health worry because they allowed the work of NGOs with razor sharp focus and empathy towards public health to function without obstacles. And the Indian Government is busy with other "important" matters while it's citizens and children are left to suffer. Came across this awesome innovation to harness the power of the wind through tulip shaped wind turbines ! Flower Turbines, based in the US and the Netherlands is installing small flower shaped windmills which pose no danger to birds and other wildlife, particularly in urban settings. The company claims that they create very low noise which is undetectable to humans. This “eco-art” turbine is supposedly cost effective & easy to install making wind energy available for everybody. We must look at these options at #TNClimateMission

Dark underbelly of #Jewel making industry in Chennai, its unholy connects with WestBengal. Despite inhumane working conditions, the promise of 3 meals a day continues to bring children/youth of poverty-stricken families frm distant villages of WB to work in Chennai n Coimbatore.

In a firm step that would help protect the interests of millions of unorganised workers and welfare boards, who are fearing erosion of their rights with the advent of the #LabourCodes, the TN govt is all set to bring a safety clause in TN Manual Workers Act, 1982.
