But for the ones with the skills and drive to do it — like J.J. McCarthy — it can help fulfill a childhood dream.

Twice, Kevin O’Connell has endured seasons where the #Vikings used at least three starting QBs; both times, the team reacted by building a QB room with three former top-10 picks. They'll have that again in 2026, and while the team hasn't given up on J.J. McCarthy, he'll have to earn anything he gets.

Yeah, and it never seemed like O’Connell loved that — though it might be different when you're talking about building an offense in the offseason vs. trying to make the pivot during the season. I know their interest in Richardson came with the understanding they'd play to his strengths. But the whole thing is interesting regardless. When he brought it up, my ears perked up; it definitely seemed like a shift.

Interesting to hear Kevin O’Connell talk about how he views a mobile QB in light of how teams plan for Justin Jefferson. Said a lot of Jefferson's touches have to come on first and second down, because teams commit to taking him away in obvious pass situations. A player like Murray, he said, "is somebody you definitely have to account for."
