Long-term, commodity prices seek the cost of production, but don't necessarily reflect the cost of production at any point in time.
Low cost producers survive, high cost producers exit, and producers in the middle usually struggle. No business owner is entitled to a profit.

Something I've been pondering on lately.... I see a lot of back and forth about what cattle SHOULD be worth. This number is always higher than the cost of production. IMPLYING that the market should ensure that the producer is profitable - always. Is that the markets job? Let me be the first to admit that, as a producer, I have absolutely whined about the cost of cattle and negative margins at placement and terrible ROIs and bla bla bla. But no one is entitled to being profitable. It is NOT the markets job to ensure you make money.

These two saw me, bolted into the trees, and took a squirrel trail up 400 vertical feet on a 30% grade.
I circled around and spent 30 minutes working them 400 yards to the gate with a 200-yard flight zone.
