“Apprehending violent and dangerous criminals is a full contact and messy task which may appear shocking to observers with little experience of policing in the real world.” Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley writes to Zack Polanski.

@themoyesiah_ @THFCHarvey18 He had a knife in his hands. He attempted to stab police officers after stabbing 2 jews. If counterterrorism police were there as soon as he went towards them with the knife he would have been shot.

Horrendous attack in Golders Green. Thinking of the victims, their families and everyone who will once again be shaken by this attack. Thank you to all of those involved with the emergency response.

@Osinttechnical Simple then. If trump wants to play this then suspend US use of Diego Garcia, Fairford, Mildenhall, and Lakenheath. If he wants to question our sovereignty then good luck with global strike ops without our bases.

An email circling the Pentagon outlines options for the US to punish NATO allies that failed to support the war against Iran -Reuters Options include suspending Spain from the alliance and reviewing the U.S. position on Britain's claim to the Falkland Islands.

Goes to show that the U.S. politicians actually have no idea how much they rely on their allies. They could perhaps do without Spain, but Germany or Britain? They literally would be unable to conduct this operation without the cooperation of Germany and Britain. Other NATO countries the U.S. are relying on to support combat operations are Portugal, Greece, Bulgaria and Romania. They rely on France, the Netherlands and Italy for overflight rights. Also Canada, again for overflight and fuel stops for C-17s. So, Senator, you should be careful about what you wish for. One day all these countries you rely on to wave your aircraft through may tell you to get stuffed.
Lindsey Graham@LindseyGrahamSC

Mr. President, one of the things I like about you most is that, now, our allies take America for granted at their own peril.   As to my suggestion, I meant it then and I’ll repeat it now: We should consider removing U.S. bases from countries who won’t let us fly from them as we confront the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism who has been hellbent on developing a nuclear weapon and was extremely close to achieving that goal.   Spain’s refusal to allow American aircraft stationed in Spain to fly in support of Operation Epic Fury is an insult and an outrage to the alliance. Mr. President, I think America’s interests would be well-served to move those aircraft from Spain to a country that we can actually rely on in a time of great need. I trust your judgment.   Thank you for your attention to this matter.

For a nation whose civil service love the phrase "at pace"... we don't really do anything quickly... We obviously knew something was going to happen because for weeks we've had additional A400M/C-17 flights in and out of Akrotiri, and deployed half our Shadow R.1 ISTAR platforms there too... It's a total failure of planning, contrary to what the establishment want you to believe
Sir Humphrey@pinstripedline

It is barely 48hrs since Akrotiri was attacked - important to realise that military activity occurs at normal speed, not 'twitter speed'. There are many things that must be done, plans made, ministerial approval sought and given. It is not as easy as saying 'make it so'.

@Mallard143 @TBrit90 Thats a separate point which is fair. Unfortunately we dont have ample defenses in place. Sky Sabre hasnt been deployed, HMS Duncan should have been deployed last week as shes on readiness. We need to reassure our allies which unfortunately the PM isnt doing

@BenKop76 @TBrit90 Or we should put ample defenses in place, but the US and Israel hardly need our help in striking Iran

Cyprus and nearby RAF Akrotiri are been targeted, while we wait for HMS Dragon to come out of maintenance and get ready to sail next week. Meanwhile high readiness HMS Duncan continues regular activities in the channel.
Navy Lookout@NavyLookout

.@HMSDuncan makes a routine departure from Portsmouth today. She is earmarked to join @HMSPWLS and the carrier strike group on Operation FIRECREST later this year. However, she will need a maintenance period beforehand. Via @PortsmouthProud

@Mallard143 @TBrit90 Disregarding any thoughts of the Iranian regime, as soon as RAF Akritori (British Sovereign Territory) was targeted we have legal justification to strike Iran. Cyprus our ally is at risk due to our inaction. Our allies have lost faith in us (Im not talking about the US).

Badenoch tells PM 'we are in this war whether we like it or not' and says Iran attacking UK bases. She accuses him of 'catching arrows rather than stopping the archer'. Why is he asking our allies to do what we should be doing ourselves? PM says UK been 'redeploying our capabilities to the region' & radar systems, ground based air defence, counter drones & F-35 jets pre deployed. Says F-35s & typhoons been in operation defending regional partners & says now sending wildcat helicopters with anti drone capabilities to Cyprus & HMS Dragon being deployed to Med

Repeating every five minutes that Akrotiri isn't being used for offensive strikes is a waste of time, they don't care. Iran doesn't care. What this statement should say is "you fucked with the wrong country".
UK in Cyprus@UKinCyprus

.@10DowningStreet told the @HouseofCommons that the RAF will not be joining offensive strikes. We remain in close contact with 🇨🇾 authorities & will keep providing updates. There is no indication that the Cypriot public is targeted. Our travel advice for #Cyprus has not changed.

You don’t know anything about Libya and Syria so don’t use them in your bullshit arguments to score points. Syrians begged for intervention while assholes like you told them no, and now you want to use their suffering as a case study. Disgusting.
Zack Polanski@ZackPolanski

It took just one phone call from Donald Trump for Starmer to jump into yet another Middle East illegal war, failing to learn the lessons of the tragedies of Iraq, Libya and Syria.

93% of British Jews say Israel plays a part in their Jewish identity, 73% see it as an “important” or “central” part and a further 20% say it plays “some” role. I think this fact is something the Left need to engage with, seriously. The Left hopes it can rhetorically separate Jews from Zionism but it’s not really as simple as that. If you want to bar ‘Zionists’ from visiting schools or being active in public or political life or whatever, you’re effectively saying you want to bar the overwhelming majority of British Jews.
Ash Sarkar@AyoCaesar

"The Bristol branch of [Palestine Solidarity Campaign] said it acted because Egan was vice-chair of Labour Friends of Israel." Presenting this as being about the MP's Jewishness, as opposed to political positions, is just disingenuous crap.

To all of our friends around the world, Under the yoke of the Islamic Republic, Iran is identified in your minds with terrorism, extremism, and poverty. The real Iran is a different Iran. A beautiful, peace-loving, and flourishing Iran. It is the Iran that existed before the Islamic Republic, and it is the Iran that will rise again from its ashes the day the Islamic Republic falls. So let me be clear about how a free Iran will act toward its neighbors and the world, after the fall of this regime. In security and foreign policy, Iran’s nuclear military program will end. Support for terrorist groups will cease immediately. A free Iran will work with regional and global partners to confront terrorism, organized crime, drug trafficking, and extremist Islamism. Iran will act as a friend and a stabilizing force in the region. And it will be a responsible partner in global security. In diplomacy, relations with the United States will be normalized and our friendship with America and her people will be restored. The State of Israel will be recognized immediately. We will pursue the expansion of the Abraham Accords into the Cyrus accords bringing together a free Iran, Israel, and the Arab world. A new chapter will begin, grounded in mutual recognition, sovereignty, and national interest. In energy, Iran holds some of the largest oil and gas reserves in the world. A free Iran will become a reliable energy supplier to the free world. Policy-making will be transparent. Iran’s actions will be responsible. Prices will be predictable. In transparency and governance, Iran will adopt and enforce international standards. Money laundering will be confronted. Organized corruption will be dismantled. Public institutions will answer to the people. In the economy, Iran is one of the world’s last great untapped markets. Our population is educated, modern, with a diaspora that connects it to the four corners of the world. A democratic Iran will open its economy to trade, investment, and innovation. And Iran will seek to invest in the world. Opportunity will replace isolation. This is not an abstract vision. It is a practical one. Grounded in national interest, stability, and cooperation. To achieve this, now is the time to stand with the Iranian people. The fall of the Islamic Republic and the establishment of a secular, democratic government in Iran will not only restore dignity to my people, it will benefit the region and the world. A free Iran will be a force for peace. For prosperity. And for partnership.

NATO would have been fully within their rights to shoot down the Russian jets over Estonia today. I’m sure some would find a way to label that ‘NATO aggression’ but there is no excuse for armed Russian aircraft to enter NATO airspace.
