As one of the few Sikhs in the public eye in Britain, I have found myself inundated with messages... The death of Henry Nowak was horrific and as a mother to a 20yo son I can't even begin to imagine the pain. I just can't..my heart is broken for his family... The killer was a monster. Evil - He does not represent the entire Sikh community. For over 100-years Sikhs have been in Britain -kirpan and all- and in that time we have become an example of all that is great about this nation; integrated, peaceful, disproportionately philanthropic, and by all measures an overwhelming asset to the UK. Not to mention, the World War contributions, which is what opened up the path for many of our families to emigrate here in the first place. Yet, one incident -literally one!- and all that gets chucked in the bin and our entire community is now a target??! Just last month a white man was found guilty of raping a Sikh woman because of how she looked! Did Sikhs demand all white men be curfewed or giving restraining orders around brown women??? We are not taught you judge an entire community based on the actions of one.
