The Jewish people are one of the oldest continuous peoples in the world. Ours is not simply an ancient history that ended long ago and was later rediscovered. It is a civilisation that has endured. The Jews who exist today are the same people who emerged in the ancient Near East thousands of years ago. Our language, culture, collective memory, and connection to the Land of Israel were formed in antiquity and carried forward across centuries of exile and dispersion. In that sense Jews are both ancient and contemporary at the same time: an indigenous people whose story began in the ancient world but has never stopped unfolding. Shavua Tov.
