You’ve probably heard over that last few years that more people are crossing the southern border than ever before. But that’s not quite right. More people are getting apprehended, but several prior years saw more crossings.

Class of 2024 Labor Market Outcomes!!! In the pandemic recovery, young high school graduates have experienced a much faster rebound in job prospects and stronger wage growth than any recovery in recent history. My latest with @Katiedeco4 @EconomicPolicy epi.org/blog/class-of-…

We can put the rapid rise in wages at the bottom in perspective by looking at the share of "low-wage jobs" which per OECD we define as <2/3 median wage (in the state). Past 3 years has seen sharp reduction in the low-wage job share, including in states w/o minimum wages. 5/

A unifying explanatory theory of 21st century technological innovation is simply "make it the same but without all the labor rights that have accumulated over the previous 150 years"

Two big takeaways: 1) More unexploded missiles and bombs have fallen in Gaza than anywhere in the world since at least the Second World War. 2) Ukrainian frontline is 600 mi long, and Gaza frontline is 25 mi long. There’s more rubble—37m tons—in Gaza than in Ukraine.
The New Yorker@NewYorker

In a new interview, @IChotiner speaks to Charles Birch, who oversees the United Nations Mine Action Service in the Palestinian territories, about why clearing Gaza of ordnance and rubble could pose a challenge unseen since the Second World War. nyer.cm/0pDCBF8

Is it possible that a temporary covid-era labor shortage led to a persistent reduction in inequality and raise bottom wages? Yes. Rationale comes from this paper. Pessimistic workers usually are at low-wage jobs. A one time shock can change anchoring. ninaroussille.github.io/files/WorkerBe…

@CharlesCMann @kdrum This is probably incorrect because those stats are the share of "households" owning homes (e.g., a 26 yr old living with parents is part of the home owning household). In contrast there's a long term decline in the share of young "people" who own homes x.com/john_voorheis/…
