@Ben_Septer @infantrydort Agree. Historians often add huge value. Write them off because ‘they didn’t wear the uniform’ at your peril

🇮🇷 Iran doesn’t need a massive navy to control the Strait of Hormuz, it built that control through its islands. Kharg Island is the center of everything: up to 90% of Iran’s oil exports move through it, with storage tanks and loading terminals feeding the global market. Hitting it would directly hit Iran’s economy. Then come the strategic positions: Qeshm, Larak, Abu Musa, Greater and Lesser Tunb. These islands are fully militarized with airstrips, missile tunnels, drone bases, naval facilities, coastal artillery, and mine-laying systems. From there, Iran can monitor ships, deploy fast attack boats, and threaten traffic moving through the strait. Geography amplifies this power: the waters are shallow and narrow, giving Iran natural cover and making any military response far more difficult. The U.S. has already struck military targets on Kharg Island but avoided oil infrastructure so far, likely to prevent a wider economic shock. Reopening the strait by force would be complex, risky, and costly. This setup gives Iran something far bigger than territory: it gives leverage over global trade and energy flows.
