Sanjeev Sanyal may be appointed as the next Finance Minister of West Bengal, and is also likely to contest the Assembly election from Nandigram. If it happens, this would mark a major technocratic and political shift in Bengal’s power structure, bringing one of India’s most prominent economic minds directly into state politics. #westbengal2026

@RishiBhattach Everyone knows my friend. The last government was not supportive of any central govt scheme or projects. It was their insecurity which made the life of common people miserable.

After being stalled for years, construction activity for the Kolkata Metro Orange Line at Chingrighata Junction is finally set to resume. According to a notification issued by Kolkata Police, segment launching work between pier spans P317–P318 and P318–P319 will be carried out at the Chingrighata metro viaduct. The work is being executed by RVNL, which is responsible for constructing major portions of the Orange Line. To facilitate this critical viaduct launching activity, traffic restrictions will be in place for two 60-hour windows: • 15 May (Friday) 8 PM – 18 May (Monday) 8 AM • 22 May (Friday) 8 PM – 25 May (Monday) 8 AM During this period, partial closures will be implemented on EM Bypass near Chingrighata. Key traffic arrangements include: • Western flank closure (Northbound) during the first phase, with vehicles diverted via a newly constructed diversion road under the metro viaduct. • Eastern flank closure (Southbound) during the second phase with diversions from Chingrighata crossing. • Vehicles heading towards Salt Lake, Ultadanga and Airport will use the temporary diversion routes. • Southbound goods vehicles on EM Bypass will not be allowed to pass through Chingrighata during the closure period. This segment launching is a crucial step to finally bridge the long-pending Chingrighata gap, one of the last major obstacles in completing the Orange Line corridor towards the airport. #KolkataMetro #OrangeLine #Chingrighata #EMBypass #KolkataPolice

Illegal construction is quite rampant in certain areas of Kolkata. One example is the Gulshan Colony on EM Bypass, which has increasingly encroached on natural wetlands over the years. Hopefully, this destructive trend can now be put to a stop!

🍃CAN DARJEELING’S TEA GARDENS BECOME BENGAL’S ECO-TOURISM GOLDMINE? 🏡 Vietnam is now attracting global tourists with beautiful eco-friendly bamboo cottages overlooking tea mountains. Why can’t Darjeeling do something similar at scale? Darjeeling already has around 80+ world-famous tea gardens, breathtaking Himalayan scenery, and one of the strongest tea brands on the planet. Tourism numbers in the hills continue to grow — but much of the economic potential still remains underdeveloped. Thoughtfully designed tea tourism, boutique hillside stays, tea trails, wellness retreats, heritage bungalows, and eco-resorts could generate jobs, diversify tea garden income, and help revive struggling hill economies. Darjeeling already has the landscape. It now needs the vision and infrastructure. #Darjeeling #TeaTourism

We aren't against technology or innovation. But we should not ignore the importance of planting trees wherever space is available. 》Trees provide shade and natural cooling, reducing urban heat. 》Trees support birds, insects, mammals, reptiles and biodiversity, which artificial installations cannot. 》Trees also give us flowers, fruits, fragrance, and seasonal beauty—benefits no artificial system can replicate. 》Natural greenery improves mental well-being and city aesthetics, something metal or glass installations cannot replace. 》Algae trees require constant electricity, maintenance, and monitoring to function. 》They are costly compared to planting and maintaining trees. 》They improve soil health through roots, organic matter, and natural nutrient cycles. 》Trees help prevent soil erosion, especially along riverbanks and slopes. 》Trees help reduce flooding in areas near rivers and low-lying zones by absorbing water and slowing runoff. So after human robots and robot dogs, we now seem to be experimenting with “tree robots.” Useful perhaps in dense urban spots, but they should supplement trees, not replace them.

The Kona Expressway is undergoing a major upgrade with the construction of a 7.2-km six-lane elevated corridor aimed at easing congestion on one of the busiest entry routes into Kolkata. The project is being executed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) at an estimated cost of around ₹1,200 crore. The elevated corridor will run above the existing Kona Expressway while the surface road will continue to handle local traffic. This design will allow through-traffic and freight vehicles to move signal-free, bypassing busy intersections such as Santragachi and Shibpur. The expressway forms a crucial link between Vidyasagar Setu and National Highway 16, which is part of the Golden Quadrilateral. Current Construction Update: Groundwork, Piling, Pier construction and Girder erection have been progressing along multiple stretches of the corridor. Traffic diversions and service road adjustments are also being implemented to allow construction while maintaining vehicle movement on the existing expressway. The project is targeted for completion around 2027. Once finished, the elevated corridor will create a high-capacity, signal-free gateway into Kolkata, significantly reducing travel time and improving freight movement towards Kolkata Port and the industrial belts of Howrah and beyond. #WestBengal #Bengal #Kolkata #KonaExpressway
