After being stalled for years, construction activity for the Kolkata Metro Orange Line at Chingrighata Junction is finally set to resume. According to a notification issued by Kolkata Police, segment launching work between pier spans P317–P318 and P318–P319 will be carried out at the Chingrighata metro viaduct. The work is being executed by RVNL, which is responsible for constructing major portions of the Orange Line. To facilitate this critical viaduct launching activity, traffic restrictions will be in place for two 60-hour windows: • 15 May (Friday) 8 PM – 18 May (Monday) 8 AM • 22 May (Friday) 8 PM – 25 May (Monday) 8 AM During this period, partial closures will be implemented on EM Bypass near Chingrighata. Key traffic arrangements include: • Western flank closure (Northbound) during the first phase, with vehicles diverted via a newly constructed diversion road under the metro viaduct. • Eastern flank closure (Southbound) during the second phase with diversions from Chingrighata crossing. • Vehicles heading towards Salt Lake, Ultadanga and Airport will use the temporary diversion routes. • Southbound goods vehicles on EM Bypass will not be allowed to pass through Chingrighata during the closure period. This segment launching is a crucial step to finally bridge the long-pending Chingrighata gap, one of the last major obstacles in completing the Orange Line corridor towards the airport. #KolkataMetro #OrangeLine #Chingrighata #EMBypass #KolkataPolice
