The Ukrainian U20 decathlon champion Volodymyr Androschuk should have been in France today for the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics. He wasn’t there because he was killed by Russia near Bakhmut in January last year. Russia has killed 487 Ukrainian athletes so far

Today, 75 years ago, 20 000 Estonians and almost 100 000 in total, from the three Baltic states, were taken at gunpoint from their homes in the middle of the night, and forced into crowded, damp, and cold cattle wagons. The young and the very old died already on the way to the Siberian concentration camps. A great number perished in the gulags. A few came back, physically and mentally in pieces.
