A woman at my office spent years bragging about never taking sick days. Every time someone called out sick, she’d make passive-aggressive comments. “Must be nice to get an extra vacation day.” “Funny how everyone gets sick on Fridays.” You know the type. One Monday she emailed the entire department claiming she had severe food poisoning and couldn’t possibly come in. Everyone wished her well. Around lunchtime our manager received a photo from a client. The client happened to be attending a baseball game. And directly behind him, smiling for the camera, was our coworker. Face painted. Team jersey. Holding a giant foam finger. The game wasn’t even local. It was three hours away. The manager said nothing. Absolutely nothing.
